This is a historic milestone for the U.S., UK, and AUKUS. The U.S. Navy and Royal Navy successfully test launched an exercise U.S. Mk 48 torpedo from an unmanned UK undersea vehicle in Scotland. American and British technology and capabilities working together to deliver the interoperability that will make AUKUS a formidable alliance.

On September 13, 2001, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II made history by directing the U.S. National Anthem to be played during the Changing of the Guard, the first time another nation’s anthem had been played during the ceremony. Today, Harriet and I were honored to witness that tribute repeated to mark the 25th anniversary of 9/11. We are deeply grateful to the Royal Family and the British people for standing with the United States in our time of need, and for the enduring friendship between our two nations.

Today marks exactly one year since Harriet and I arrived in the UK, and what a year it has been! From trade deals, two visits to the UK from President Trump, including an historic second State Visit, to hosting the Vice President, the Speaker of the House, eight Cabinet secretaries, and a host of senior officials. Throughout it all, I have been working to deliver President Donald J. Trump Donald J. Trump’s priorities of making Americans safer, stronger, and more prosperous through our work with the UK, while affirming the shared values that bind our countries. As we celebrate 250 years of American independence, I am excited to lead U.S. Embassy London in continuing to build on these strong foundations in the coming year. There is truly no partnership like ours, and I am honored to serve and strengthen it every day as U.S. Ambassador to the UK.
