Russia just vetoed a U.S. resolution, backed by 11 Security Council members, that would have taken historic steps toward ending the 50-year Western Sahara conflict. We must not fall back on a status quo that condemns refugees to another five decades in the camps—especially when there is a real path to peace on the table and viable alternatives for a better future for the Sahrawi people.

Last month more than a quarter of the UN’s members joined the U.S. in rejecting Durban's poisonous legacy. For the UN to restore its credibility and realize its potential, it must bury the Durban conference's legacy of grievance politics, antisemitism, Third-Worldism, and hatred for the West.
