A rare look at a Captain’s Mast with an unruly sailor in 2001 or 2002 on the submarine USS Wyoming. The sailor here is actually attending his second Captain’s Mast for the deployment. Seaman Recruit Livers ended up going to three Captain’s Masts aboard the Wyoming. In this video here, Livers is actively urinating on himself intentionally. When he was ordered to his third Captain’s Mast, Livers addressed the CO by saying “What’s up Slick Rick.” Things got so bad after his third Captain’s Mast that the submarine was forced to surface and Livers was taken off in handcuffs. Little is known about Livers after he was led away from the Wyoming, although I am sure he was quickly separated from the Navy.

21 year old U.S. Navy Sailor John Bridges is sucked into jet engine intake of an A-6E Intruder preparing to take off from USS Theodore Roosevelt in the Persian Gulf on February 20, 1991 during Operation Desert Storm. Bridges miraculously survived as his helmet, coat, and goggles were sucked into the engine moments before himself. Bridges was able to wedge his arm and feet against the walls of the intake just inches from the fan blades of the engine. The pilot immediately shut the engine down which took a full three minutes to wind down completely. Bridges is pulled out of the intake with a broken collarbone, ruptured eardrums, and some scrapes. He did not return to the flight deck for some time.

On October 25, 1994, the first female fighter pilot certified for combat in the U.S. Military, Kara Hultgreen, crashes her F-14A while on approach to USS Abraham Lincoln and is killed. Hultgreen discovers while on approach that she is overshooting the centerline of the landing area. She inputs left rudder pedal to correct her approach. The yawing motion disrupts airflow to the left wing and engine of the aircraft, which suffers a compressor stall and loses power causing asymmetric thrust. This was a well known issue with the F-14. Hultgreen abandons the approach and selects full afterburner on the remaining engine causing even more asymmetric thrust that the control surfaces of the aircraft cannot overcome. This causes the left wing to stall and a rapid turn to the water. The RIO in the rear seat, Lt. Matthew Klemish, initiates the ejection sequence. As the RIO is ejected first in the sequence, Klemish is ejected first and almost parallel with the water. He survives the ejection. Hultgreen is not as fortunate. As the plane is rapidly rolling left, by the time her seat ejects from the aircraft 0.4 seconds later it is too late. Lt. Kara Hultgreen is ejected downward into the water and killed instantly. She is found 3,700 feet below on the sea floor, still strapped into her ejection seat and recovered on November 12. The second half of the video shows her destroyed F-14A as it too is recovered from the sea floor off of San Diego.

HUD Tape from an F/A -18C Hornet as it destroys an Iraqi MiG 21 approaching head on at supersonic speed. On January 17, 1991, during Operation Desert Storm, U.S. Navy pilots Mark Fox and Nick Mongillo flying F/A-18C Hornet jets from the USS Saratoga shot down two Iraqi MiG-21 fighters in under 40 seconds while still carrying full bomb loads. Both pilots went on to drop their ordnance on their targets and return to their carriers. These two kills were the only two fixed wing air-to-air kills by U.S. Navy jets during Desert Storm. Both F/A-18s flown that day now rest in museums. **FULL DISCLOSURE** I believe this HUD tape to be authentic. I have not found any evidence that this is unauthentic. I know the radio calls are authentic.

This is footage from the cockpit of the only remaining airworthy PB4Y-2 Privateer from the recent Thunder Over Michigan airshow. This Privateer is privately owned and travels to air shows around the U.S. frequently. You can see how much muscle the pilot must use to wrestle the large aircraft. This footage taken by the Taliban is of the Battle of Kamdesh on October 3, 2009 as depicted in the 2020 film “The Outpost.” On this day, 300 Tailban fighters attacked Combat Outpost (COP) Keating at 6:00am from all sides. You can see on the video the moment the attack is ordered along with American soldiers moving to cover throughout the base. Also visible is an A-10 Thunderbolt II and an AH-64 Apache as they join the fight to stop the attack on the base. Ultimately, the Taliban fighters will enter COP Keating 48 minutes into the battle, burning down numerous buildings as the small American force collapses to a small perimeter within the base. From there, they push teams outwards to repel the Taliban attackers with the help of concentrated air power throughout the day. The final Taliban fighters leave the base around 5:10pm and the battle is over by 7pm. Of note to the end of the footage you can see the cowardly Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers as they abandon their posts and quickly allow the Taliban to enter the outpost. No ANA soldiers held their ground against the Taliban and they even stole property from Americans during and after the battle. Ultimately, 8 Americans are killed and 27 are wounded. Roughly 150-200 Taliban fighters are killed or wounded. Two Americans, SSGT Clinton Romesha and SSGT Ty Carter are awarded the Medal of Honor for their actions during the battle. COP Keating is quickly closed by the Americans and abandoned hastily.

On April 29, 2013, National Airlines Flight 102 took off from Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan loaded with five armored vehicles. An improperly secured vehicle shifted rearward during takeoff, smashing into the rear bulkhead of the 747 and disabling the rear control surfaces. This caused an uncontrollable pitch up maneuver, followed by a stall and crash. At the time, the aircraft was operating under the United States Air Force’s Air Mobility Command. 7 people on board were killed in the accident.

Rare footage of a CH-46 Sea Knight catching fire as it lifts off from the USS Bonhomme Richard on March 12, 1999. You can see just as the CH-46 lifts off the deck a fire erupt in the aft end of the helicopter and begin to spread towards those in the forward end. The helicopter quickly slams back down on the deck as the occupants evacuate the helicopter.

Leaked footage from 2022 shows the moment an F-35C strikes the ramp of the USS Carl Vinson while attempting to land on the aircraft carrier on January 24, 2022. As the stealth fighter slides down the deck in flames, the pilot ejects from the aircraft. Six sailors, including the pilot, are injured in the accident. The second image shows the crashed jet before it sinks 12,000 feet into the South China Sea. The Navy recovered the aircraft two months later in March 2022.
