The ICC and its proponents seek a standing world tribunal with near-unlimited reach. It is constantly seeking to aggrandize its own power, falsely asserting so-called jurisdiction beyond its mandate, including over nations who never consented to its authority. These perverse attempts to encroach on the sovereignty of states, including some on this Council, must be defeated. So long as this decades-old concern remains unaddressed, we will continue to take steps as needed to protect U.S. interests. -Ambassador Jeff Bartos

Hamas has proven through its actions that it will do anything to cling to power. They hope that we will give up and turn a blind eye. We will not. The Board of Peace—a key pillar of President Trump's Peace Plan—is moving forward with pilot programs toward building a brighter future for Gaza, despite Hamas’ continued intransigence. The U.S. fully supports this effort.

That is why, on July 8, President Trump informed Congress of his intent to rescind Syria's State Sponsor of Terrorism designation—unlocking trade & investment opportunities to help rebuild Syria. How far Syria has come in such a short time is remarkable. In 1979, it was the first country on the U.S. list of State Sponsors of Terrorism. Today, it is a regional leader in the fight against ISIS, Hizballah, & other terrorist groups.

Families—including those of missing American citizens—deserve answers on the fate of the 125,000+ missing persons and justice for abuses over the past 14 years. Close cooperation between the Syrian government and the UN's Independent Institution on Missing Persons (IIMP) is key.

Today’s UN General Assembly debate on Cuba does nothing to help the Cuban people, while wasting all of our money. At $28k/hour, the $84k spent on this repetitive and useless session could have fed 3,500 Cuban children for a month.
