On June 4 1996, Tupac released ‘Hit ‘Em Up’ a diss track aimed at Notorious B.I.G and Sean Combs’ Bad Boy Records whom he believed had shot him. Less than 2 weeks later on June 16, he will celebrate his 25th birthday which will be his last. Exactly 101 days after releasing that record, he will succumb to injuries sustained in a drive-by shooting by Orlando Anderson and his uncle, Keefe D. It has been rumoured that Bad Boy called that hit on him. Less than 6 months after Tupac’s death, the Notorious B.I.G. will also be gunned down in a drive-by shooting. Till date, ‘Hit ‘Em Up’ is ranked as the greatest diss track of all time. It did cost us two of Hip-Hop’s brightest stars.

Here is Tupac talking about how he was prepared for death. 🥹 Sometimes, death robs humanity of immense creative works. This year, Tupac would have been 55 had he lived. Given his prolific creative rate, imagine all the works we won’t ever get to hear just because of Keefe D and whoever called that hit. 😭 Keep resting, Hip-Hop’s GOAT. 🐐
