Gaurav Mehta, founder of Jaipur Watch Company, who sold his BMW to build a watch brand nobody wanted. He grew up in the UK buying cheap fashion watches, then came home and got hooked on old HMTs, taking them apart just to see how they worked. His sister's father in law was one of India's renowned coin collectors that hobby became the idea: a watch built around a coin. He found an engineering workshop near the bus stand in Jaipur to slice a British India one rupee silver coin to the exact thickness, then found an old watch repair uncle in the walled city to assemble the first batch. That uncle is still his head watchmaker today. He pitched the finished watch, priced at 23,000 rupees, to 24 or 25 retailers across North India. Every one said no. One broke the watch down piece by piece and told him it shouldn't cost more than 1000 rupees. People suggested he rename the brand JWC so it sounded more foreign. He went from a BMW to an i20 and could see people talking about him behind his back. Nine years in, Shark Tank India rejected him too, even past 1 crore rupees in revenue, calling the category unproven. He clipped the parts where the sharks praised the product anyway and ran them as ads for a year, which helped fund his first store at Select City Walk. Four more stores followed. Then in December 2025 a friend called saying he'd seen a reel of PM Modi wearing his watch. Gaurav spent weeks scrolling the PM's official photo gallery himself until he found a rally photo confirming it. Nobody at the company had gifted it or sold it to him directly, they still don't know how it reached him. Jaipur Watch Company sold 1000 watches in a week, with 1500 people still on the waitlist for that one model. One night, deep in those nine years, Gaurav could not recharge his wife's phone. He asked his mother for money, then called a friend in Dubai to find him a job instead. "I think I paid 9 years of my life." ~ Gaurav Mehta Not the BMW, not the near bankruptcy. Nine years is the real price he paid. video credit: ig @ gauravmehtajaipur #humanbioscope

Meet Keyaa Kunal Banerji, a 21-year-old from Haryana who just deadlifted more than 3x her own bodyweight on a world stage. At the 2026 IPF World Sub-Junior and Junior Classic Powerlifting Championships in Sun City, South Africa, Keyaa stepped up weighing 45.70kg and pulled 140kg off the floor. That lift alone earned her silver in the deadlift, behind France's Ines Herbaux at 165kg and ahead of Ireland's Blathnaid O'Dwyer, who matched her 140kg but finished third. Her full meet came to a 90kg squat, 50kg bench, and that 140kg deadlift, a 280kg total. She finished fifth overall in the category. The silver came from that one lift alone. According to the official meet card, after locking in 140kg on her second deadlift attempt, Keyaa did not stop there. She loaded 142.5kg for her third attempt and missed it. Three months earlier at India's national championship, she had done the same thing, nailing 140kg then going for 147.5kg and missing that too. Twice in one season, her winning number was never the number she was actually chasing. I see two clear sides of Gen Z in India. Some of burn with ambition, striving to live fully and contribute to the nation. Others let the golden years of growth slip away. Still, from this contrast, let a little Kayaa rise, ready to shine.
