A violent suspect is in custody after the VPD Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Marine Unit intercepted a yacht in English Bay. This morning, Vancouver Police received a call for help from a woman who was assaulted on a 40-foot yacht. ERT boarded the VPD’s new boat, the R.G. McBeath V.C., to rescue the victim. The yacht was intercepted while in motion heading towards the Strait of Georgia, where a man was taken into custody. The victim was rescued and treated for her injuries. Firearms were located on the vessel and investigators are seeking a search warrant for the yacht. VPD is seeking charges of assault and forcible confinement against a man. Thanks to the Vancouver Police Foundation for their continued support in helping make these rescues possible. #VPDNews

Chief Adam Palmer: "This morning I announced my retirement from the #VPD effective April 30. As a kid I always wanted to be a cop, and I’ve lived that dream now for 37+ years. I started in my early 20s as a patrol officer in East Van and worked through many interesting and challenging assignments along the way. "It’s been an honour and a truly humbling experience to serve the past 10 years as the Chief of the Vancouver Police Department, and to work with the finest people I have ever met, the exceptional men and women of the VPD." @ChiefPalmer
