📍WATCH: I spoke to someone senior at DTI who is no DA fan, but said Andrew Whitfield was smart and a nice guy. Why fire him and not the disastrous Nobuhle Nkabane at Higher Education? 🤷🏿♀️ Cyril Ramaphosa's shock axing of the DA deputy minister in the department of trade and industry, Andrew Whitfield, is such a bad idea on the face of it. It'll throw the DA and ANC partnership in the GNU into disarray AGAIN, an instability the country cannot afford again. The political gossip is this was over an unsanctioned trip to try to mend fences with the Trump administration in his capacity as a DA leader. This really doesn't seem like an issue to take such drastic action over. Watch my first take:

Many say Ramaphosa disappointed and should have come armed with facts, knowing Donald Trump would have brought up the lie of the white genocide in South Africa. But what would that have achieved? He's heard all the facts before. This was about resetting the relationship, not arguing over facts, which would have made the situation even more tense. Some thoughts. 👇🏽
