Another angle of these animals attacking a law abiding homeowner in his own front yard. They do this because they know there are no consequences for criminality in New York. They’ve done this before and will do it again.

Last night in Malba, a large group of individuals from outside my district conducted an illegal 'takeover' of a quiet residential street at approximately 12:30am. This is not the first time it's happened. A private security guard attempted to calm the situation -- he was assaulted by the mob and his vehicle was set on fire. He suffered significant injuries. A local resident was also assaulted. Response to this incident was less than ideal. Residents reporting the incident to 911 were told that 'quality of life team' and 311 should handle the situation. Unacceptable. In fact, these violent street takeovers should be met with maximum force by the police department. We have NEVER had these problems before. Now it's an epidemic. What changed? We stopped arresting criminals. I am meeting this morning with the chief of department and the local precinct at the scene to discuss exactly what happened last night. I have already been assured that Malba will receive four dedicated patrol cars from this point forward, as well as additional security upgrades that we cannot disclose. However, the city MUST do something to stop this lawlessness. All the speed cameras in the world do absolutely NOTHING to prevent these incidents -- we need police response and the most severe consequences for these criminals, not to simply allow them to drive away after they've completed their mayhem. These incidents are happening citywide, and they're happening because there are no longer any real consequences to this kind of criminality. But let me make something very clear to the criminals -- you are risking your lives bringing this chaos into our neighborhoods. I know for a fact there were multiple armed residents who exercised extreme restraint last night, however that level of restraint is not guaranteed. If the city refuses to do what's necessary, the people might. Once again I want to urge any residents of my district who are interested in obtaining their carry or premises permits to contact my office. We are offering assistance with the application process and legal fees to all who wish to exercise their constitutional right to self protection.

Tonight, on the eve of the most unpopular public policy in New York history, let's take a look at England, which is often cited by activists as a template of success for our own congestion pricing scheme. After London's initial congestion pricing program hollowed out their city center of all but the wealthiest businesses and corporations, the government then decided to move the program outward into the surrounding communities well beyond the city center, calling them 'ULEZ' zones -- or 'Ultra Low Emission Zones' -- because there was no 'congestion' in those areas to pin the program to. Unavoidable ULEZ cameras fenced in low-density residential areas, costing working-class people up to $50 to simply leave their homes by car. This scheme was implemented despite overwhelming opposition, with local councils often approving these cameras in the dead of night and without any public notice in order to stifle community input. Dissent was ignored. Vocal opponents were strong-armed and intimidated by activists and politicians. Sound familiar? And now that they've built their congestion pricing utopia, a funny thing happened -- the people fought back. Vigilantes calling themselves 'Blade Runners' took up arms to liberate their neighborhoods by vandalizing and destroying the camera network. And they've been successful. Thus far they've taken out between 1000 and 2000 cameras. The municipalities can barely keep up. And the entire program may actually be in jeopardy. Is this what's next for New York? Activists have made no secret about their intention to not only raise congestion tolls to up to $80, but also to deploy congestion zones throughout every borough and neighborhood in the city. You can only push people so far. Otherwise law-abiding people who follow the rules and want to be left alone can only tolerate so much nickel-and-diming by a government that seems out to screw them at every opportunity before they've had enough. And sooner or later you reach a breaking point. Congestion pricing and ULEZ was the breaking point for these Englishmen. And it would be foolish to believe the same won't happen here in due time. A sawzall, spray paint, or butane torch is all it takes. With any luck, President Trump will make it a priority to unwind this disaster before it gets worse. But if not, I have a feeling the war against these immoral and punitive taxes -- and the people who advocate for them -- is just beginning.

Last night I joined FOX Business to discuss the current state of the NYC budget, Mamdani's property tax threats, as well as the recent decision by NYU Langone to discontinue transgender 'care' for minors. Let's get one thing straight, this budget deficit was entirely predictable, and throughout the campaign Zohran pretended it wasn't an issue. He counted on massive tax increases that only the state could give him, and knew he'd have to hold the middle class hostage to get what he wanted. A property tax increase is a nonstarter. I don't think a majority of the City Council has any stomach for it. And increased taxes from Albany would not only be wasted by an administration that has no idea what they're doing, but also wouldn't be limited to 'the rich' for very long either. Zohran is also pretending we can't meet our current fiscal obligations without these massive tax increases, when in fact he's adding BILLIONS to the budget over last year, and that's making the situation significantly worse. The only solution here is major spending cuts -- with a particular eye towards fraud -- as we shovel $20 BILLION per year into the nonprofit black hole with nothing to show for it. How about we start there? Of course, nothing of the sort is on the table. In fact, Zohran wants to pump MORE billions of your taxes into corrupt politically-connected nonprofits. Because that's how the Democrats maintain power -- laundering tax money into left-wing activism. We're headed for a death spiral, unless cooler heads can prevail here. We're already the highest-taxed city in the entire country. Yet we STILL can't make it work? Something is very wrong, and it all comes down to the abject failure of single-party Democrat leadership.

This afternoon I was on a Zoom call with Council colleagues to discuss the possible disruption of federal dollars into NYC, specifically schools. Everyone is very quick to blame our fiscal problems on the federal government. Guess what? The federal government doesn't run our city, the City Council does. We decide what we spend money on. We're responsible for the state of this city. And it's time the Democrat-run City Council take responsibility for the mess they've made. Our shortfalls are our OWN. You want to talk about schools? From the bus companies to the School Construction Authority to the nonprofits we pour billions into -- what are we getting for our money? Why doesn't anyone ever ask why we spend ENDLESSLY for increasingly poor results? Why is this ALWAYS someone else's fault -- the shutdown, Trump, congress -- there's ALWAYS someone else to blame. Where is the accountability? I've watched this city waste money on nonsense and duck accountability for the last four years. And there's going to be a new mayoral administration soon. Is accountability and fiscal discipline coming too? I'll tell you this -- if accountability isn't going going to come from within this city government, then it's going to have to come from outside. And I'm sure there are auditors and investigators in the federal government who'd love the opportunity to hold city officials and the nonprofit empire that leeches off our taxpayers accountable. I look forward to facilitating that action in any way I can in my next term.

This city experienced a few days of heavy rain and it brought some areas to the brink of disaster. And when I came into office, heavy flooding after rainstorms were common also. But while other districts ranted about climate change and building bike lanes, I got to work doing real things that actually matter -- cleaning catch basins, arranging regular camera inspections of our sewers, planning future infrastructure upgrades, deploying DEP resources where necessary, and planting 1,000 new trees throughout our district. The result? We fared far better in this storm than much of the rest of the city. Thus far my office has received few reports of homes flooding -- far fewer than we experienced early in my term -- and I've spent the day around the district visiting problem areas to see for myself how we fared. There is still plenty of work to be done, and there remain isolated instances of flooding, including parts of College Point where sewer work is ongoing, and around the Cross Island Parkway, which is at sea level and will always be problematic. We expect to continue to field calls into next week. But overall we did well. Here's the reality -- our city should easily be able to handle a few days of rain. But we can't. Why? Because our infrastructure has been neglected for decades. And on top of that, overdevelopment has strained our these neglected sewer and water systems beyond their capabilities. When you add thousands of new units of housing and commercial space to an infrastructure designed a century ago to handle a fraction of this capacity, you cannot be surprised when things like this happen. Pretty simple, right? Well no. Because progressive Democrats in this city would rather blame 'climate change' than do the hard and unglamorous work of major sewer upgrades. Not a lot of galas for sewer maintenance. Celebrities don't fly in on their private jets to write seven-figure checks for catch basins. Infrastructure doesn't make idealistic teens cry for news cameras. But that -- and only that -- is what's going to fix this. Hard-nosed infrastructure work, and getting a handle on overdevelopment. Period. They want you to believe that changing the weather for the entire planet is the only answer here. And they want to tax you into oblivion for it. But no matter how many carbon-reduction scams they hatch, the flooding will keep getting worse and worse. Regardless, I'm going to continue to do real work here in District 19. We're going to continue to aggressively maintain our sewers and catch basins, protect our low-density zoning, and plant even more trees and green spaces. And we'll be fine.

On Thursday I co-hosted a town hall in Bayside with BP Donovan Richards to discuss important issues such as policing and city services. Representatives from Con Edison were also in attendance and I took the opportunity to ask them publicly what so many of us want to know -- what are you doing to lower our energy bills? Not one day goes by without my office being flooded with calls from constituents who simply cannot afford their electric and heating bills any longer. Triple-digit increases are not uncommon -- with even more increases on the way. It's completely out of control, and nobody in this city or state has any answers whatsoever. Here are the facts -- New York's liberal energy policy is a disaster. We traded affordable energy for, well, nothing really. We shut down cheap and reliable power generation across the state for renewables that produced a fraction of the output for several times the cost, we closed down a valuable pipeline from from Pennsylvania, and we are now making up our vast shortfalls by importing energy from Canada. We did this all the while implementing wildly reckless electrification mandates across the city and state that have driven up grid demand without ANY corresponding increase in supply. The result of all of this is ordinary New Yorkers can't afford to heat or power their homes anymore. Earlier this very same day I actually met with the new EPA administrator for our region, and be assured that if Democrats in New York refuse to do what's necessary to reduce energy costs, the Trump Administration will force them to. I had a very productive conversation about many of the local laws which contributed to this crisis and will be working with the federal government to dismantle them. It's funny that we hear Democrats here cry endlessly about the affordability crisis, while no single policy has contributed to our exploding cost of living more than their disastrous and dead-ignorant energy policies. A very simple fact is that if you want to lower the cost of living, the single most important factor is cheap energy. Give people cheap energy and the cost of literally everything else goes down. Why is this so hard for Democrats to accept? I will be meeting with the leadership of Con Ed to get some answers soon. And if I don't like what I hear, you can bet my next phone call will be to the Trump Administration to propose a very serious investigation.

Yesterday morning I hosted a group of my constituents whose lives have been directly impacted by the squatter crisis, for a segment with Marcia Kramer of CBS. The new talking point from the progressive Democrats is that the squatter crisis is overblown or even non-existent, as they push to further empower squatters and strip property rights in the state budget currently being negotiated, but this problem is all too real, and it's devastating. I was able to pull this group of constituents together for a live interview with less than 12 hours notice. That's how bad it's gotten. With more notice I could have brought in least a dozen more cases from my office alone. This problem is rampant, it's getting worse, and it's destroying people's faith in the city. These laws MUST be changed, but Republicans cannot do it alone. Democrats MUST begin to take this seriously at both the city and state level. The timeframe to establish residency must be made longer. I'm proposing a change from 30 days to 180 days in NYC. Documentation to establish residency must be limited to official utility bills or notarized leases and nothing more. In one case in Jamaica, a squatter used an Uber Eats receipt to establish residency, and the court allowed it. In no sane world should this be acceptable. Homeowners MUST be empowered to rapidly remove squatters from their property when they are first discovered. And squatters MUST be taken out of civil court and brought into criminal court, to be charged with criminal trespass, forgery, and ID theft if appropriate. There must be serious consequences to these scams. The people have had enough. Laws must change. And if Democrats aren't interested in fixing these problems, homeowners are going to be left with no other option but to take matters into their own hands to protect their rights. We're playing with fire here.
