During the inaugural night match of RPL in Pulwama, it was a burst of emotions in eyes & happiness on the face of Waheed Ur Rehman Para on seeing a rare glimpse of joy & sense of personal freedom being experienced by our youth which was unknown to them for a long time. For years, the youth of Kashmir has endured the heaviest burdens. Public spaces were not only silenced, they literally didn't exist. Fear ruled the streets & people would walk miles away if they sense crowd. The traumatic episode of Feb 2019 had made even gathering as a small group felt impossible. People of Kashmir had become hopeless, almost abandoned all their dreams and had accepted their fate of being caught in silence and fear, their lives itself had become a dark prison, dreaming of night life was even out of the question. But that day, the South Kashmir witnessed nightlife as a Community not dictated by fear but happiness and a spirit willing to taste personal freedom. The smiles, the cheers, the togetherness & hope, it was so overwhelming. People were roaming freely, living a moment that once felt impossible. For the first time in our memory, the youth of Kashmir in large numbers experienced a night filled with light, laughter, hope and life and not routine dread of night where young people venturing out made families extremely nervous. That one night when nearly 30,000 people came together to witness the togetherness, many couldn’t hold back their emotions. The fear of uncertainty, surveillance, violence which consumed our psychological well being appeared easing a bit. 30 thousand people coming together, enjoying till late night, going home peacefully and not being seen as "security threat" is unprecedented in recent history of Kashmir. Such an event is indeed emerging as a baby step toward bridging the trust deficit. That night wasn’t just about cricket. It was about hope, hope of possibility of togetherness & normal community life, a hope of life free of fear and excessive surveillance. It was about showing that even after everything, our hope, spirit & resilience is unbroken.

HCM Omar Abdullah is compromising the dignity of the J&K state - which once was strong enough that if the PM of the country had to visit J&K, Visa was necessary - by going out of his way to please & bow to the BJP-led centre. He himself is disempowering the "The chair of the CM of J&K" Has Mr. Omar Abdullah forgot the way NC managed a campaign in which they presented BJP as the biggest possible threat for J&K? Now, within 3 months, what has changed in J&K that NC started singing a different tune, praising the BJP & being totally subservient to the centre? Mobilizing people on radical grounds during elections to gain power, only to completely abandon those grounds, leads to widespread disillusionment with the democratic process itself. It often leads to the feeling of betrayal among masses which eventually makes people reactionary. Elections are not a farce. The will of the people is not a joke. Democracy should not leave people feeling resentful as if they’ve been conned by the electoral process. Our politicians need to understand that repeatedly betraying public sentiment not only erodes trust but also alienates people from democratic participation.l The National Conference (NC) has mastered the art of promoting the rhetoric of Kashmiri dignity & autonomy, using religious & cultural identity to emotionally charge the people & win elections, only to betray those very sentiments at critical moments. Time and again, they have positioned themselves as the defenders of Kashmir’s rights, only to compromise when it suits their power calculus. This pattern of emotional exploitation, followed by betrayal, not only makes the NC's collaboration with the Centre the cheapest & most insincere in Kashmir’s political history but also makes people feel that democratic process is not a solution. History has been repeating itself too often in Kashmir when it comes to ruling parties.
