The family, his daughter says when they tried to rescue Ram Swaroop the accused sat on the daughter, thrashed them and tore her clothes. Police have filed a case against Mahendra and his 14 aides.

The April 2025 attack in Pahalgam claimed 26 lives. Nazakat rescued 11 members of four families, including children, all from Chhattisgarh. Among them was the family of local BJP leader Amit Agrawal, who, along with his friends, welcomed Nazakat with firecrackers and garlands. The victim begged them to stop with folded hands but to no avail. 4 days ago, police had confiscated some liquor from the 22-year-old tribal who used to work at the dhaba managed by both Jitendra Chauhan and Jantu Raja.
