The idea of all nations coming together to protect people from war and injustice is radical. And it works. On this United Nations Day, let's remember all the lives saved and improved through multilateralism – and all those who still need our support. Let us not give up on that idea.

Difficult times for human rights mean busy days at the Human Rights Council. We will not always agree. But what matters is that we keep talking and searching for common ground on the issues that matter most. The support I heard from many states gives me hope.

Racism damages us all. It leaves us with a smaller version of what our world can be. Let’s refuse that smaller future and embrace the full richness of our shared humanity.

The so-called 'war on woke' is really a war on inclusion. Delusional & racist ideas are influencing perpetrators of violence & denying people equality. We must see past these tactics of distraction. Multiculturalism isn't a threat: it's humanity's history & beneficial to all.

A child born in 2026 should not have to carry the weight of centuries of racial discrimination and the horrors of the past. Reparatory justice means coming to terms with the truth of our common history to help dismantle systemic racism. My statement:

Human rights education strengthens our collective immunity against hatred, violence, discrimination, and polarization. It is a necessity for every society, especially in turbulent times. At UN Human Rights Council, I called on states to make it a priority:

The Declaration on the Right to Development is a blueprint for strong, resilient, and inclusive societies that thrive through cooperation and mutual respect. Let’s reimagine development that delivers human rights for all. My remarks at #UNGA:

A free press is the oxygen of a free society. Yet efforts to silence the media are becoming disturbingly creative – and normalized. States must end the persecution of journalists and act to protect them. We must stand with those who stand for truth.

Arrived in Lebanon for talks with the Government & civil society, and to meet some of those whose lives have been devastated by the conflict and forced to flee Israeli bombardment. Look forward to discussing how human rights can foster trust and help build a more secure future.

My Office’s latest research found widespread anxiety, depression, and trauma among young people worldwide – a human rights emergency. On this Mental Health Day, let’s commit to ensuring that every child and young person gets the support they need.

Appalled by horrendous events of past 48hrs in #Gaza. Killings of so many in schools-turned-shelters, amid fleeing of hundreds from Al-Shifa Hospital & ongoing displacement in southern Gaza, wholly inconsistent with protection of civilians required under international law.

I never stop learning from young people. They are not just standing in the doorway to the future – they hold the keys to that door. That is why one of the first key initiatives of the Global Alliance for Human Rights is for youth: Happy Youth Day!

What do we do when our world is in disarray? We turn to human rights, solidarity, and collective action. Many of you are already doing it, and the Global Alliance for Human Rights aims to channel that energy. Stay tuned to learn how you can participate:

On International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, we mark 60 years of the Convention against racial discrimination. While progress has been made, racism remains pervasive. We must stand up for justice, challenge biases, and address systemic racism. #FightRacism

Launching the Global Alliance for Human Rights at #UNGA, I saw just how much is already being done to protect fairness, dignity, and equality across the world. So let’s come together and show that we are the majority. Participation in the Alliance is open:

In #Rafah I was at the gates to what is a living nightmare in #Gaza. I feel, at my core, the pain and immense suffering of every person whose loved one has been killed. We must all feel this shared pain and end this nightmare.

The vivid murals at the Mexican Supreme Court Suprema Corte are a reminder that human rights are central to every deliberation.

Many countries have just recorded their hottest May on record. But as our planet is turning into a furnace, those protecting it are being harassed and criminalized. The safety of environmental defenders is essential to the safety of our future.

An important message from our Deputy High Commissioner Awa Dabo on this International Day for Women and Girls of African Descent. Today and every day, we celebrate their leadership and commit to building a world where women and girls of African descent can thrive.

Today we celebrate the courage and creativity of LGBTIQ+ people and communities around the world — and stand against violence, discrimination, and hate. Let’s protect the freedom to live and love freely.
