The very last part of the National Day of Mourning ceremony at the Sydney Opera House was for me the most shocking. Sharri Markson who had done a great job hosting, gave the (mostly Jewish) audience strict safety instructions not to gather outside the Sydney Opera House after the event and to disperse immediately. If you've ever attended any event at the Opera House, you have never, ever been told to leave in a hurry. You may have been encouraged to hang around for a post-show drink at the Opera Bar. Whereas this warning at Jewish gigs is as standard as a safety briefing on an aircraft. It's become so normal at Jewish events for so many years, not a single Jewish person in that room, including the MC Sharri, would have thought it unusual. Actually It's fucked. Nobody should have to live this way in Australia.

I've helped quite a few teenagers learn to drive and over the weekend gave a girl her first ever go behind the wheel.
