The Abbey's cloisters are at their most peaceful in the early morning. This Lent, take a moment to reflect as you follow in the footsteps of the medieval monks of Westminster, exploring the cloisters accompanied by the trickling sounds of the fountain and the bells calling people to morning prayer. Conclude your walk in College Garden and listen to the beautiful sound of birdsong as the Abbey awakes to start a new day.

HRH The Prince of Wales gives a reading from Luke 2 during Royal Carols: Together at Christmas, a special service here in the Abbey earlier this month. You can watch the full service on ITVX. 'In that region there were shepherds living in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. Then an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, 'Do not be afraid; for see — I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people: to you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign for you: you will find a child wrapped in bands of cloth and lying in a manger.' And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God and saying, 'Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace among those whom he favours!'' #RoyalCarols #TogetherAtChristmas

This Sunday is #PalmSunday, when we celebrate Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem. He was welcomed by crowds who laid palm leaves in his path and proclaimed him the Messiah. Palm Sunday also marks the start of #HolyWeek when we look ahead of Jesus' crucifixion on Good Friday. Find out more ⤵️

The Great O Antiphons are a series of short verses which count down the days to Christmas Eve. Sung at the beginning and end of the Magnificat during Evensong, each antiphon begins with a different name for Jesus. They draw on Scripture to help us learn about who Jesus will be, as predicted by the prophets. Here at Westminster Abbey, these antiphons are sung at Evensong from 16 to 23 December. As we approach Christmas Eve, we'll be sharing a recording of the verses with you on the appointed day for each antiphon. You're invited to observe this Advent tradition with us as we await the coming of Christ at Christmas. Our thanks to Lay Vicar William Balkwill for these beautiful recordings. We begin today with O Wisdom: 'O Wisdom, which camest out of the mouth of the most high, and reachest from one end to another mightily, and sweetly ordering all things. Come and teach us the way of prudence.'
