Mr. Vice President JD Vance, I have spent decades studying #Syria, visited the country, and lived under a Baathist occupation in #Lebanon for 15 years. It is undeniable that the dominant jihadi forces in Syria have initiated an ethnic cleansing campaign against the #Alawites in the northwest, with Christians likely to be next in the neighboring areas. The #Kurds are facing increasing pressure, and the Druze are preparing for potential invasion. At this stage, economic sanctions will not affect the jihadi regime in power. Diplomatic efforts, particularly covert ones, may delay but will not halt the ongoing pogroms against the Alawites or the imminent threats to these communities. A critical mistake was made when #HTS was allowed to regain full control back in December, a decision made during the #Biden administration. Since January 20th, the jihadists have been threatening to destroy these minority groups while falsely claiming to build a “state.” What they are actually constructing is a jihadi state, with their militias specifically targeting the Alawites. Meanwhile, Sunni moderates are growing increasingly concerned about the erosion of their freedoms. The quickest way to prevent an irreversible disaster is to form a local and regional coalition that includes these minorities. U.S. Central Command can achieve this if given clear and strict instructions to protect the Alawites, support the Druze, and maintain Kurdish preparedness. There is no need for additional U.S. troops, but an urgent need for a strategic plan, which, as far as I can tell, currently does not exist. This plan can be provided on demand and implemented immediately. When we entered Iraq, there was a feasible strategy in place. However, it was undermined not by the situation in #Nineveh and #Sinjar but by jihadi lobbies within the Beltway and a dangerously misguided policy starting in June 2009. Told NEWSMAX that the strikes by the US on a jihadi terror group with ties to ISIS in north Western Nigeria shows that action is now needed to just to mitigate terror groups but also to weaken these groups before they commit more massacres against Nigerians in general and Christians in particular. I argued that if Washington wants to protect the Christian communities facing mass violence in Nigeria, the US must establish a military presence on the coast in the Biafra area where the population would be supportive.

What the Iranian people in the diaspora showed us during the #FreeIran protests around the world this past week was truly remarkable. From Sydney to Los Angeles, from Toronto to Munich — and earlier in Berlin, London, and Tokyo — their message was one of gratitude and dignity. Unlike the aggressive “globalize the intifada” crowds seen in recent years, Iranian demonstrators were peaceful, polite, and respectful. They handed roses and flowers to police officers in the streets. Even as they wept for their families back in their homeland, they remained composed and humane. Meanwhile, inside Iran, thousands were massacred in acts of brutal repression. There, it was the regime that was exporting violence and bloodshed. Americans can learn from the example set by these courageous Iranians in the free world: When law enforcement officers are attacked or brutalized by violent jihadists citizens should show support through peaceful acts of appreciation like offering flowers to the protectors. Iranian communities around the world brought smiles to the faces of the men and women serving in security units while the Iranian people was crushed by the regime's forces.

I told NEWSMAX that the President of Syria’s regime is not a former jihadist. He is a former terror leader, since he has not attacked Americans since taking office in Damascus last December. However, he still qualifies as a jihadi commander as long as he has not publicly renounced jihadism or abandoned the goal of establishing a Caliphate. I explained that the administration views him as useful for two main reasons: first, to prevent the return of Iran’s Islamic regime to Syria; and second, to rapidly open the country to U.S. companies eager to begin investing and launching projects there. Regarding the priorities the administration should set for its guest today, it must demand firm protection for Syria’s minorities—including Christians, Alawites, Druze, and Kurds—and, most importantly, the withdrawal of foreign jihadists from the coast and the northwest region in general.
