Our youngest Barred Owl baby is the most vocal of our babies. This sound is a food begging noise. This baby is only a few days old and the eyes are still closed. Food calling starts whenever they hear noise or movement that may indicate something that can feed them is nearby.

Owls are known for regurgitating, or casting, up pellets. These pellets are made up of all of the materials that an owl cannot digest from the food they eat: the bones, fur, and feathers. When digesting food, these indigestible parts get compacted and coughed back up later.
