Creator of the @playcanvas web graphics platform. I post about WebGL, WebGPU, WebXR and 3D Gaussian splatting.

Turned my laptop screen into a window. 🪟 The webcam tracks my head position via MediaPipe, and the @PlayCanvas Engine renders a 3D Gaussian splat with an off-axis projection - so her gun barrel seems to pop out from the screen. 🔫 Splat by Dymensium.

Fun fact: if you train a 3D Gaussian splat with images where the subject keeps looking at the camera, you get this... 👀 Runnable link 👇

A quick test but...mind blown! 🤯 🎞️ Took a Sora AI-generated video 🎨 Generated a 3D Gaussian Splat (MP4 -> PLY) 💻 Dropped it into the PlayCanvas editor 🏃 Added an FPS controller 🪄 Et voilà!

A fun little 'splat portrait' uploaded to SuperSplat. The astonishing thing? It's only 1.6MB! A full 3D XR-friendly scan no bigger than a PNG/JPG! Made possible by PlayCanvas. 🗜️

This is the first Gaussian splat I ever created - a self-portrait from Nov 2023 scanned with Luma. The PlayCanvas Engine has come so far in the last 2+ years. SuperSplat can now stream splats of unlimited size with precise collision and crazy performance. Free and open source. 🚀

The real estate sector is NOT ready for this. 🏠💥 Forget static photos and clunky 360 tours. You can now freely explore photorealistic digital twins of homes in your browser. The new "Walk Mode" in @PlayCanvas SuperSplat just changed the game. 🧵

A pivotal moment for real estate! 🏡 Capturing a property in 3D used to mean a $5,000 LiDAR scanner. This house was scanned with a $500 Insta360 X5 - a consumer 360 camera. And best of all? All of the software is free and open source! It's based on a technique called 3D Gaussian splatting: 🪄 Splat creation: Spirula Studio 🖼️ Splat rendering: PlayCanvas So for $500, you can present any property online and let prospective purchasers freely explore as if it was a videogame. 🎮 [1/3]

Voxel collision in SuperSplat is a game changer. 🧊 It turns any Gaussian splat into accurate 5 cm voxels, automatically. It's super-compressed and far more efficient than a mesh, yet solid enough to climb stairs and walk crossbeams. Free & open source from PlayCanvas 👇

I don't even have a photograph of my uni dorm room. 🧑‍🎓 This guy scanned his as a 3D Gaussian splat. Every poster, every bit of desk clutter, a moment frozen in time. Imagine revisiting that room decades from now. SuperSplat lets you explore and share 3D scenes like these. [1/2]

45 million Gaussians. A sprawling medieval town, walkable in a browser tab. 🤯 Trogir, Croatia - running on PlayCanvas' WebGPU 3DGS renderer - quick enough to keep a huge scene like this fluid as you explore. Sped up x2 and birds eye view at the end 🐦 [1/2]

This isn’t video. It’s a photorealistic 3D Gaussian splat of a 15th–16th century church near Bergamo. 🇮🇹 Half a GB of data, but it loads instantly in the browser (thanks to the @PlayCanvas Engine). Digital heritage and virtual tourism are about to change forever.
