A new The Wall Street Journal investigation gathered video and data from over 200 Tesla Autopilot crashes, revealing that longstanding concerns about Tesla’s camera-based technology, which differs from the rest of the industry, are showing up on the roads and putting the public at risk. The data uncovered from redacted information for more than 1000 Tesla autopilot crashes submitted to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration since 2021, reveals 44 of the crashes occurred when Teslas in autopilot veered suddenly and 32 occurred when a Tesla in autopilot failed to stop or yield for an obstacle in front of it–with some resulting in fatalities.
