In Minneapolis, John Sawchak, a white man, shot his Black neighbour Davis Moturi in the neck from an upstairs window while Moturi was trimming a tree on his own property. The shooting followed months of harassment by Sawchak, including racial slurs ("Black bastard"), threats with weapons, vandalism, and repeated abuse. Moturi’s family had filed at least 19 police reports, with active warrants against Sawchak that police had not served due to his mental illness and firearms. Moturi survived but suffered serious injuries: fractured spine, broken ribs, collapsed lung, and concussion. He underwent surgery to remove the bullet. Sawchak was arrested after a SWAT standoff. He faces charges including second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, stalking, and harassment. Prosecutors called it racially motivated.
