Nearly 40 years ago we started building Jazz at Lincoln Center with a belief in the power of this music and the people who carry it forward. This morning on CBS Mornings I spoke about the transition ahead and what comes next. Here’s a moment from that conversation.

Last night at the Blue Note New York was pure magic! Here's a clip from our set, where the intimacy of the venue allowed us to truly connect with every single person in the room. We’re just getting started with our residency here... The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and the Septet will be performing two shows every evening at 8:00pm and 10:30pm from June 11 to 16. Come on down, bring your friends, and let's make some memories together. See you at the Blue Note!

On January 2009, The Honorable Sandra Day O’Connor and I filmed short clips discussing the relationship between the U.S. government and jazz music. The result was broadcast on Martin Luther King Day during Jazz at Lincoln Center’s “Let Freedom Swing!” concert in Washington D.C., on January 19, 2009. Sandra Day O’Connor, the first female U.S. Supreme Court justice, died today Dec. 1 in Phoenix.

Last week, Bryan Stevenson and I discussed with The Associated Press News the release of "Freedom, Justice, and Hope," a new album by the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra featuring myself and special guest Bryan Stevenson Equal Justice Initiative . This album commemorates Juneteenth and is a live recording of a multidisciplinary concert that intertwines jazz with the Black American struggle for equality. The album features new arrangements of protest songs and original compositions, along with Stevenson’s impactful monologues on racial injustice, making it a powerful tribute to the ongoing fight for civil rights.
