On 7 May 2023 at London Heathrow Airport, Malaysia Airlines Flight MH3, operated by an Airbus A350-900, was seen lining up on the runway behind a British Airways Airbus A320 preparing for departure. The unusual close positioning attracted attention because of the potential risks associated with jet blast and wake turbulence when aircraft are operating so closely together. Heathrow procedures allow aircraft to enter the runway under certain conditional line-up clearances, but pilots still have to consider hazards from the aircraft ahead.
