A hidden gem, quite literally. This sparkling diamond, set free in recycled gold, transformed by Fie Bodenhoff.

In a small Greek village stands the Byzantine Church of Porta Panagia, built in 1283 and still beautifully unchanged 🇬🇷

In 1967 this was the world's tallest statue. The Motherland Calls is a colossal WWII memorial in Volgograd, Russia, on the hill of Mamayev Kurgan — the site of the Battle of Stalingrad.

In a bedroom of ancient Pompeii, a story from Greek myth was painted on the wall. This fresco of Leda and the Swan, Zeus in disguise, and the origins of Helen of Troy. 2,000 years later, after Vesuvius froze the city in time, the fresco is still here.

The Romans built this villa in the early 4th century, probably for a very high‑ranking official, maybe even an emperor. Every corridor, every room, every bath, every reception hall was covered in mosaics. What’s even more impressive is how it survived. The villa was buried under mud after a massive landslide in the Middle Ages, and that disaster ended up being its protection. The roof collapsed, the walls fell, but the mosaics stayed sealed under layers of earth for centuries, untouched by weather, war, or looters. When archaeologists finally uncovered it in the 20th century, they found the largest collection of Roman mosaics anywhere...more than 3,500 square meters of them!

And here are the first images from the Louvre heist — inside the Apollo Gallery, where it all took place. A man dressed as a construction worker breaks open a display case. Museum visitors walk by, unaware that a robbery is unfolding right beside them. How does something so brazen happen in one of the most secure museums in the world?

Westward, launched in 1910, was the largest yacht ever built under the 1908 International Rule. 135 feet from bow to stern. She had an incredible life on the water, dominating races on both sides of the Atlantic. But her story ended in 1947 when she was scuttled in the English Channel per her final owner's wishes. She still holds the title. The 1908 Rule was retired long ago, so Westward remains the largest yacht ever built to it. Nothing of the original survives today.

319 year old copy of Homer's Odyssey. This pocket-size edition was printed in Amsterdam in 1707. The frontispiece shows Odysseus with Athena, and Poseidon whipping the sea behind them. Still in its original binding. It’s been sitting at the State Library of New South Wales since 1939.

A bacchante after a Dionysian rush and a young Mexican sculptor making Paris take him seriously. Fidencio Luciano Nava carved After the Orgy in 1909 and it became the piece that turned him from a student in Paris into a name people remembered.
