🚨🇲🇽 TikTok Influencer Shot Dead on Live Stream ZAPOPAN, MEXICO: Valeria Márquez, a 23-year-old beauty influencer, was shot three times and killed while livestreaming on TikTok at her salon, Blossom the Beauty Lounge, in Zapopan, Jalisco, on May 13, 2025. A man arrived on a motorcycle, entered the salon, and fired at Valeria, hitting her once in the chest and twice in the head. She collapsed on camera, and the stream ended when an unknown woman stopped the recording. Paramedics arrived but pronounced her dead at the scene. Valeria had nearly 200,000 followers on TikTok and Instagram, where she shared beauty tips and lifestyle videos. Earlier in the stream, she mentioned a suspicious visitor who claimed to bring an “expensive gift” but left when she wasn’t there. Mexico faces a femicide crisis, with 1.3 deaths per 100,000 women in 2023, and Jalisco ranks sixth for homicides, with 906 since October 2024. The case is being investigated as a femicide, but no suspect has been named. Similar tragedies have struck Mexico. In December 2024, a TikTok model was shot dead outside a Tijuana gym in a targeted attack. In Veracruz, a mayoral candidate and her daughter were killed during a live-streamed rally just days before Valeria’s murder. These incidents highlight Mexico’s ongoing violence against women, with 10 women or girls killed daily, often by partners or family. Police are reviewing footage and Valeria’s social media for clues.
