Jazz’s effort on this double play is just not enough. Volpe had a similar impact on a double play attempt a few days ago. Limited commitment to the play.

McMahon’s a lot like Volpe. Both need to play extraordinary defense to make up for being invisible on offense.

There was definitely some hesitation here from Dominguez to go full speed into the corner. Even though he looks more capable in right, there is a long way to go (same story at any outfield position).

If the Yankees send Volpe back down at some point, they should let George Lombard play a lot more shortstop and expose Volpe to other positions. Lombard’s arm strength and intelligence is a huge plus at the position.

Teruaki Sato is going to get a multi-year deal once he posts. He’s hitting .376/.444/.743 through 117 PA with 7 HR, 14BB, and 27K. He’s also a very good third baseman. Hit 40 home runs last year.

It’s not a great idea to return Anthony Volpe to SS right now with the way José Caballero is hitting the ball. Hope the Yankees see it that way as well. Volpe hasn’t earned the SS role, and Caballero is hot. The timing isn’t right to make a switch.

This post-game interview sticks out to me with Joe Girardi. Down 2-0 in the 2017 ALDS to the Indians (Guardians), he put himself accountable for the loss and the team responded.

Volpe gets absolutely nothing on his throws because of his mechanics. Upper half opens up early, and he ends up guiding the ball to first on the throw because he has no power left by the time he’s releasing the ball. This along with his hesitancy to attack grounders basically gives the runner a few more steps to first than he should have by the time the ball is released.

This happened in the World Series. Boone can say that it’s players “giving a crap” but fix this garbage product rather than encouraging more of it.

George Lombard Jr.’s hustle on this play will not be seen in the boxscore, but that’s what makes him special. He didn’t secure the out there, but look where he ends up on the play.

Anthony Volpe’s already playing defensive as the ball approaches, he gets a long look at first, takes two hops and throws to first. Front foot plant is too wide, with improper hip rotation. Upper body opens up too early. There’s too much going on with him on grounders, transfers and throws at the same time.

Song Sung-mun is drawing interest from MLB teams, namely the Giants, Cubs, Yankees, Mariners, Angels, and Pirates. Song brings versatility (1B/2B/3B), hits velocity well, and he’s adept against LHP. Profiles as a backup infielder for a contender.
