This powerful testimony from Iranian artist Parastou Forouhar, whose parents were killed by the Islamic Republic for their political activism, reflects what I believe to be a broad sentiment in Iran. She explains that protestors did not take to the streets to “go to war” and that they don’t want a war brought upon the country. She criticises Pahlavi for calling on people to protest without having any sense of obligation to keep protestors safe and for treating them as “cannon fodder.” Perhaps someone will create a version with subtitles.

A friend sent me this clip of hasanabi guessing that my last name is Turkic. A good guess! It's an Azeri name. My family is from Ardabil in northern Iran. Batmanghelidj can be roughly translated as "heavy sword." It's also an epithet found in Azerbaijani epics.

Really positive interview from Madanizadeh, Iran’s prospective economy minister. He wants to create conditions for households and firms to move away from investing in safe havens and towards investing in productive assets. A much-needed supply-side focus!
