🧵 WHAT IS THE BROKEN WINDOWS THEORY? 🧵 Farage mentioned in the debate about how dealing with lower level crime such as shoplifting and graffiti could enable government to deal with more serious crime. This is called broken windows theory, and here's how it relates to crime:

🚨Treasury Committee: Reeves "frustrated" at the amount of leaking there was before the budget. The worst part of it all is that they seem to have no idea how any of this has happened - whether we believe this or not is another thing. However, if this is true, then the unprecedented number of leaks indicates that she, her team, and the Treasury have clearly lost control of the process and the security around the budget. The culture of leaking, which seems endemic under Reeves's chancellorship, turned the run-up to the budget into a chaotic weeks-long circus, which, in turn, signals weakness on Reeves's part. The now former head of the OBR took responsibility for the OBR's leaking of the budget almost an hour before. Why won't Reeves take any responsibility for the leaks that occurred on her watch?

🚨Treasury Committee: Reeves confronted by Harriett Baldwin on her revealed preference for hiking taxes. Reeves chose to answer a completely valid question childishly by attacking the previous government's record on taxes. The equivalent of a kid being in a fight, arguing that 'they started it'. The Conservatives' record on taxation is hardly award-worthy, but Reeves has increased taxes by over £60bn since Labour won in 2024 and blatantly lied to the electorate after the last budget about not needing to come back for more and breaking the manifesto promise not to raise taxes on working people. Her revealed preference IS tax hikes, and her refusal to answer a straightforward question on the subject is proof that she knows that this is true.

🚨Liaison Committee: Starmer complains about a lack of speed in government due to regulations and arms-length bodies. I agree, but Starmer saying this is beyond parody. Has he no self-awareness? His government has established over 27 quangos, including Great British Energy, Skills England, and the Independent Football Regulator. None of which actually do anything or are needed. Hell, Starmer had to abolish the 'Office for Value for Money' (remember that) because the Treasury Committee deemed it 'a waste of money'. His stated preference is speed, but his revealed preference is process and bureaucracy. Starmer is the best prime minister quangocrats could buy.

As Katie Lam points out, a forgotten truth about migration is that it cannot be spoken about in isolation. Migration is a housing issue, a cultural issue and, importantly for me, a taxpayer issue. So let's see the data on migration's impacts on all these areas in full.
