While the Chinese run exercises with their robot dogs mixed in with soldiers and produce slick promotional videos — despite having zero real combat experience — Ukrainians, who immediately throw all new solutions into real battle, are actively developing the concept of UGVs, searching for new tactics for their use. The Ukrainian company Tencore LLC poses the question: can UGVs protect heavy equipment in the near future? They believe the answer is yes: according to their concept, heavy equipment should operate in conjunction with a robotic component — with “eyes,” EW protection domes, and other systems that UGVs can carry, creating an entire ecosystem around crewed heavy combat platforms.

I had never seen the Soviet Krechet spacesuit, developed for the Soviet Moon expedition, this close up and in such detail. Holy shit, the dieselpunk level is unreal. I mean, if the Americans flew and landed their spacecraft with a full-fledged computer on board, the Soviets were supposed to fly basically on mechanics and automation. In other words, straight-up Newtonian: everything as lever-and-vacuum-tube as possible — and the spacesuit is from exactly the same universe. And yes, in theory, they could have landed the spacecraft, but there was a high chance it would have been a “landing” with no return. Since the Soviet rocket was weaker, only one person was supposed to land on the Moon, not two as in the U.S. program. That’s why, in the tests, you can see them practicing ways for a cosmonaut to get back on his feet if he fell. Because there would be no one there to help you. It really does break your brain when you imagine a person in this “canvas-pump-and-dial” suit — alone, on the Moon. But it has to be admitted: yes, there is a certain charm to this kind of extreme engineering minimalism turned up to full dieselpunk.

The Russians are publishing footage of their Omych UGV towing the Kurier UGV to the rear after the latter reportedly sustained damage during combat. Interestingly, the Omych robotic system uses an onboard biocomputer for control, backed up by another biocomputer. Biocomputers are usually considered very expensive — it takes at least 18 years to create one. But Russia is known for its cheap biocomputers: although they also take at least 18 years to create, Russia has accumulated a great many of them over the centuries.

Ukrainian commander of the unmanned systems regiment Achilles, Major Yurii Fedorenko, on the battlefield of 2026: “In 2026, we will see a completely different battlefield. The line of contact—from zero out to 20–25 kilometers toward the enemy and toward us—will become a maximum gray zone, where our infantry will be present in a dispersed, non-continuous manner. Without infantry, war is impossible. Everyone else will be working to ensure the infantryman’s ability to survive in these harsh conditions of a total kill zone. In short, these are the key issues today: radars that have recently appeared, interceptor drones, and fiber-optic drones. These are the game changers of 2026. A Ukrainian border guard with the call sign Nexus, while carrying out combat missions in Chasiv Yar, came across paintings left behind in an apartment of a destroyed building. This video of a civilian in Australia rushing a terrorist and disarming him has already gone viral. The man is undoubtedly a hero: faced with the “run, hide, fight” triad, his brain chose the third option — there is something deeply primal in such actions. But the brave man lacked either the resolve, or mercy kicked in, or perhaps the fear of being prosecuted for killing someone, and he did not put down the rabid dog. That turned out to be a mistake, because the bastard who had been killing innocent people retreated to his accomplice, pulled out another gun, and continued the shooting spree. Knights exist only in fairy tales; in reality everything is more direct and rough — arrests and other tactical counter-strikes should be handled by the police. A civilian, however, has every moral right to put down a rabid dog. As our commander in the army used to say: even if they give you ten years in prison, you will stay alive and, most importantly, you will save the lives of others. He said that while reprimanding the guards who, during a training alert, decided not to open fire on a suspicious individual because they were afraid: what if it was a civilian? During the exercise, that suspicious individual infiltrated the camp and carried out a massacre of soldiers. In any case, honor to the hero: most people would choose to run or freeze rather than fight back.
