When #JAMES gets serious and goes all quiet, especially when he’s not really in the mood to joke around, he can look a little intense sometimes. But his cheeky bros still love teasing him anyway — especially #SEONGHYEON, James’ beloved little brother. Honestly, out of everyone, he seems the least scared of James 😭 And somehow all of them look like they’re having even more fun when James starts showing that he’s annoyed. #MARTIN, though, seems to understand James’ mood the best. Like he just knows when James is in the mood to play along and when he isn’t. They’re all seriously so close

I’m so proud of you — My JAMES ❤️ 🦅 : Everyone, to be really honest, today is our 1st anniversary and also our Birthday Party, but at the same time, this is the last Korean stop of this tour. Ever since we came back to Korea, I really thought, “Ah, I really want to hear people call out the name ‘JAMES’ in Korean.” So hearing my name made me really happy. It felt so good. Looking back, we’ve taken on so many challenges and tried so many new things through this tour. In a way, a lot of this was a first for us too. This was our first time doing our own solo shows like this, so I was really worried before we started. But as we went through the tour, I feel like we grew so much in such a short amount of time. When I look at my members, at these guys, I feel really proud of them. I’m also so thankful to everyone who has been by our side and helped us along the way. And as we traveled from city to city and met so many different COERs, every single one of you supported us and genuinely cheered us on. I really think the reason this past year has been filled with so many good things is all because of COER. Thank you so, so much. #JAMES #JAMESCORTIS #제임스 #赵雨凡

#JAMES is really smart with the way he chooses to answer questions, and I think that might be part of why his Group Therapy segment ended with the UNPROFESSIONAL ASSESSMENT: “WALKING ON EGGSHELLS.” It’s an idiom about being really careful with what you say or do because you don’t want to upset someone, make them feel bad, or make the situation worse — basically like having to “walk on eggshells.” You can kind of see that in the way he answers. He often avoids directly pointing at someone if the answer might embarrass them or make them feel bad. Like when he was asked which dorm memory he’d want to erase, he answered about dorm life in general instead of naming one specific moment or person. When he said some of his stuff goes missing because the members use it, he still didn’t name anyone. And when he was asked who gives the best and worst advice, he chose not to name anyone because he didn’t want to compare people like that. But when he does have to name someone, he usually keeps it playful and unserious so it doesn’t come off too harsh. It was kind of the same when he was asked what he was most nervous about before debut. That’s a pretty serious and specific question, but he answered really broadly with, “I’m nervous everywhere.” And when they followed up by asking if he was nervous in the session too, he turned it into a joke about eggs instead: “I’m nervous flipping eggs… When you flip them, your day is ruined when the yolk pops.” To me, it feels like he knows he gets nervous easily, but he doesn’t really want to dig too deeply into those feelings or get too specific, especially in a show that isn’t meant to be that serious.

The meaning behind JAMES’ Chinese name The OP asked JAMES about the meaning of his Chinese name. JAMES said his Chinese name is Chao Yufan (趙雨凡 / 赵雨凡). Simply put, it’s related to “a rainy day.” 雨 (Yǔ) means rain, while 凡 (Fán) carries the meaning of something ordinary, simple, or naturally occurring. JAMES went on to explain that rain itself is something very common and natural, so his name has a very simple meaning — something like “an ordinary rainy day.” This also matches what JAMES mentioned before about the origin of his Chinese name: he was born on an ordinary rainy day 🌧️ #JAMES #JAMESCORTIS #제임스 #赵雨凡

The way he kept blinking while he was talking… it really looked like he was trying not to cry — my JAME ❤️ 🦅: Before the show today, I was watching an X JAPAN performance on YouTube, and it made me think that I need to work even harder. But seeing all of you cheering us on so passionately together was seriously the best. Really. It also helped me loosen up and get over my nerves. I had so much fun. Everyone, how was the Japanese I practiced? I really, really worked hard on it. Thank you so much for having fun with us today. #JAMES #JAMESCORTIS #제임스 #赵雨凡

JAMES’ heartfelt words on the final day of the ‘PUT YOUR PHONE DOWN’ tour in Japan 🥹❤️ 🦅: Honestly, in this moment, I started feeling a little emotional. First, I’d like to speak in Korean. Today is such a precious day for us. So many things have happened in such a short amount of time, and it’s been a period that has really helped us grow so much. And now, we’ve finally made it all the way here and been able to complete this tour together. I’m truly grateful to everyone who helped make this possible, and every single one of you means so much to me. Like I always say, we didn’t make it this far just because of the five of us. It’s because of everyone who has been on this journey with us, everyone who enjoys our songs and our music with us, and everyone who has continued to support us along the way. Us, everyone here, being able to stand on this stage, and everything surrounding us — all of you are a part of it. And finally, we’re ending the tour here in Japan. We’ve really worked so hard and put so much into this. Everyone, thank you so much for always giving us so, so much energy. Because of all the energy you’ve given us, right now I honestly feel like, ‘I want to do even more concerts.’ I’m truly grateful for everything. If you were happy and had fun enjoying this show together with us, then I’m happy too. This has truly become a tour that I’ll never forget. And you all know, right? This was our very first tour. So I’ll keep working hard, and all of us will keep doing our best. Please wait for our next tour. Wait for us, okay? Thank you so much for having fun with us all the way until the very end. #JAMES #JAMESCORTIS #제임스 #赵雨凡

This is so funny. All four members teamed up to prank their leader — #KEONHO was the mastermind, #SEONGHYEON was his partner in crime, #JUHOON was the supporter, and #JAMES gave them the perfect timing, while all the COERs in the hall just watched the whole thing unfold. Poor leader #MARTIN had absolutely no idea what they were up to because he was too busy pouring his heart out to the fans ❤️ Edited by me. Thanks for the original clips! #CORTIS #코르티스

In this vlog, #JAMES tries to speak almost entirely in Japanese. He really seems to have a natural aptitude for languages — he speaks English, Thai, Chinese, Korean, and Japanese. JAMES’s language skills didn’t just come from becoming an idol. He grew up having to switch between languages to communicate with different members of his family, so in a way, he’s been learning to listen closely, pick up accents, and switch languages depending on who he’s talking to since he was young. It reminds me of something he once said in Weverse Magazine: JAMES: “My family’s from all over the place, and when we all sit down for a meal together, I’m the only one who can speak all the different languages, so I speak in Chinese for one of them, then in English for someone else, and then Thai for another. It’s sort of exhausting (laughs) but it’s also a really unique experience”

#JAMES was so sweet today. He quietly supported #KEONHO while he gave his thank-you speech. Then, when it was JAMES’s turn to speak, #MARTIN accidentally wrapped up the speech with a final “Thank you,” so JAMES never got the chance to say his part. But before they left the stage, JAMES shouted, “COER, make some noise! Saranghaeyo!” as loud as he could 🫶

Watching this clip actually made me feel a lot better. Even though #JAMES was crying and trying to hold back his tears, I really think they were tears of happiness. The way he looked out at the fans and smiled… I could really feel how happy and touched he was, and how grateful he was for all the love he was getting. Honestly, just seeing that is enough for me. No matter what was going through his mind at that moment, I just want him to know that so many people love him and are always there cheering him on. I just want him to be happy and have nothing but good things come his way. And even when things get tough, I hope he’ll always have the strength to get through them. I’m so, so proud of you, JAMES 🥹❤️
