This should not be dismissed as “just a game.” My client, currently in the #BBNaija house, has allegedly been threatened with death by a fellow housemate on multiple occasions, not once, not twice. These threats have reportedly been made in relation to what may happen when they leave the show. A threat to someone’s life should NEVER be normalised, regardless of the circumstances or the reality-TV environment. We are calling for this matter to be taken seriously and for the relevant authorities to review the footage and take appropriate action to ensure my client’s safety, both within the house and after the show. CONTEXT MATTERS!!! A lot has been said about Yusuf’s diary session, particularly his comment that his previous connections were good people, but he felt they lacked “depth.” But before you judge his words, watch the clips. Here is Yusuf having a genuine conversation with the same people he spoke about in his Diary Session. He listened, engaged and shared parts of his own life, just like everyone else in the house does. And then watch the second clip. Yusuf is literally being mimicked and mocked by Bells while sitting right there. Imagine opening up about your life and your experiences, only for those same experiences to become something someone uses to ridicule you. So when Biggie asked Yusuf about his connections in the house, what exactly was he supposed to call that? Was he supposed to pretend everything was perfect? Was he supposed to describe a connection as deep when he personally didn't feel that depth? Yusuf was answering a question about HIS experience. He never said they were bad people. In fact, he specifically acknowledged that they were good people. He simply said he didn't enjoy having certain conversations with them because he felt they didn't connect with him on a deeper level. And somehow, that has been twisted into Yusuf believing he is better than everyone else. It is even more painful because Yusuf has never pretended to come from a life of privilege. When these Housemates sit down and talk about their lives, their families, their relationships, their struggles and their experiences, Yusuf is allowed to talk about his own life too. If your life has been easier, beautiful. If you have had opportunities Yusuf didn't have, beautiful. If you didn't have to struggle for certain things, you are blessed. But please don't assume that because you didn't experience something, somebody else must be lying about experiencing it. Yusuf has spoken about where he comes from because it is part of his story. He has spoken about the struggles, the sacrifices, the auditions, the doors that didn't open and the few that finally did. He even spoke about getting an audition with Ruth Kadiri in March and how that opportunity became significant in his journey. He isn't saying he suffered the most. He is saying, “This is MY story.” And nobody should have to apologise for telling their own story simply because someone else finds it uncomfortable. Yusuf came into Biggie’s House with a dream. A dream to be seen, to showcase his talent and to change his circumstances. He isn't asking for pity. He is asking for a chance. So before you judge his words, watch the context. Before you call him arrogant, watch what happened before that Diary Session. Before you decide that his story is a lie, remember that you were not there for the life he lived before Biggie’s House. Let Yusuf be Yusuf. And Yusfuls, if you believe he deserves the opportunity to keep telling his story and fighting for the future he dreams of, KEEP VOTING. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME MY CLIENT’S LIFE HAS BEEN THREATENED. We need to address something that should never be normalised or dismissed as “banter.” Yusuf has repeatedly been subjected to statements threatening his safety, including remarks about him needing to “run away from Lagos for his life.” This is not the first time such statements have been made, and it is deeply concerning. During the recent confrontation, Yusuf was being provoked and was also spat on. Arguments happen. Disagreements happen. People can exchange words, get angry and even clash. But threatening someone’s life is a completely different matter. Nobody should have to live with repeated threats to their safety, whether inside or outside the Big Brother Naija house. Yusuf’s safety must be taken seriously. Threats to life are not entertainment, they are not banter, and they should not be normalised. Yusuf opened up about feeling anxious as he awaits tonight’s eviction. When asked what surviving the eviction would mean to him, Yusuf said he’s grateful to have made it this far, and making it through tonight would bring him one step closer to the finals. He also shared that September 8th is his father’s birthday, and he’s been looking forward to the opportunity to give his dad a special shout-out from inside the house. For Yusuf, surviving tonight would also be a reminder that there are genuine people outside who truly love and support him for who he is. Let’s not rewrite conversations to manufacture a victim and a villain where there isn’t one. In this conversation Yusuf did not speak ill of Nommy. Not once. In fact, when Tram said, “I want to provoke her every day,” Yusuf immediately pointed out what that would do and he said "it will create a rivalry and people taking sides; and even identified it as a strategy" When Tram said, “I want her to run out of things to say,” Yusuf literally told him, “She will never run out of things to say.” He did not encourage the provocation. He did not insult Nommy. He did not plot against her. And when he was reporting what happened with the air freshener, he was recounting an incident that had already happened. That is not the same thing as plotting to provoke someone. You are absolutely entitled to defend your client. But, do not use her feelings as a licence to assassinate another person’s character, dragging Yusuf into a narrative where he is portrayed as one of three men deliberately plotting against her is simply dishonest. Look for pity in peace, but not at the expense of my client’s character. We will not sit quietly while perfectly clear words are twisted into something they were never intended to mean!!! #YusufMuhammed #BBNaija
