Under Pierre Poilievre, Conservatives have abandoned Ukraine. Fortunately, the bill passed the Senate thanks to the unanimous support of all other Senators. This agreement is good for Canada's economy and critical to Ukraine’s economy and rebuild. Ensuring Ukraine's victory is vital to Canada's security - Ukraine must win, otherwise Europe, the US and Canada will be next in defending ourselves against Russia. Every Ukrainian soldier fighting today is one less Canadian who will have to fight in the future. Every dollar spent today is millions of dollars less that we will have to spend in the future. In October, alongside a number of MP colleagues, I asked Justin Trudeau to step down and begin a process to elect a new leader of the Liberal Party. When he declined to do so, I was one of a number of MPs who publicly called for a secret ballot vote in caucus on the question of whether Justin Trudeau should lead us into the next election. The Prime Minister has not responded to that request. Recently I have publicly repeated my calls for him to step down. It pains me to do this. I have done so because I believe that this is in the best interests of the country, of the party and it is what my constituents have told me that they would like to happen. I have heard from countless constituents and countless Canadians who want a change in Prime Ministers, but who don’t want Pierre Poilievre to become Prime Minister. A leadership change would be the best way of honouring that desire for change and give us the best chance of defeating Pierre Poilievre. On Tuesday I spoke about this with David Cochrane on CBC’s Power & Politics.

After being silenced by the Conservative Deputy Speaker for over 6 months because Conservative MPs didn’t like what I had to say, I rose in the House of Commons today to continue what I was saying on March 20th before being censored. As I was saying… In Canada and around the world we have seen the emergence of radical far-right movements. They have had a profound impact the types of governments that have taken power and on the lives of people around the world including here in Canada. They have: · Organized disinformation campaigns designed to defame people, create division and undermine confidence in reliable sources of information. · They have impacted how some people treat others. · They have impacted how some politicians treat others, including here in Canada. · They have led to some politicians acting against the best interests of Canadians by opposing sound economic policies, by opposing sound social policies, like Dental Care, child care and better long-term care; by undermining fundamental rights - like those protected in our Charter, women’s rights and a woman’s right to choose; and by opposing measures to stand up to aggressors like Russia. I urge us to take actions together to stop the growing influence of these radical far-right movements, because doing so is essential to protect Canada’s security, our economy and our freedom.

WATCH & LISTEN: CONSERVATIVE MPs TRY AND FAIL 5 TIMES TO SHOUT ME DOWN as I call them out for not supporting Ukraine during my question to the Prime Minister. It is clear where Conservatives stand: They voted against the Canada-Ukraine Free Trade Agreement, voted to cut existing funding to Operation Unifier and voted to cut funding for military aid to Ukraine. And yesterday, Pierre Poilievre dismissively called Ukraine a “far away foreign land”. Under Pierre Poilievre, the Conservative party has abandoned Ukraine. Today in the House of Commons I asked PM Justin Trudeau to reassure Canadians that our government will stand with the Ukrainian people until they win.

I was proud to have received the unanimous consent of all Members of Parliament, to adopt the motion below on the day we mark 4 years since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine: That the House: a) condemn Russia's ongoing, unjustified, full-scale military invasion of Ukraine; b) call on Russia to cease its hostilities against Ukraine and withdraw to recognized international borders; c) strongly condemn Russia’s deliberate and ongoing attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, depriving civilians of heat, electricity and basic services, particularly during the winter months; d) reaffirm the Government of Canada’s unwavering support for Ukraine, it’s territorial integrity, and independence and sovereignty within internationally recognized borders and territorial waters; e) affirm Canada’s commitment to working toward a just, lasting, and comprehensive peace in the region; f) support the establishment of robust and legally binding security guarantees to Ukraine; g) acknowledge the work of the Government of Canada, provinces, and territories, in assisting those displaced by Russia’s ongoing, unjust, invasion of Ukraine; h) and recognize Canada’s leadership at the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children and call for all possible efforts to be made to ensure the return of all Ukrainian prisoners of war, illegally detained civilians and children forcibly deported to Russia, and to support efforts to bring to justice those responsible for war crimes before the International Criminal Court. My thanks to MPs for their support of my motion. Canada is unwavering in our support for Ukraine. We must stand with the people of Ukraine until they win.
