You haven’t thought this through. (‘Grotesque’) Hamas runs Gaza and is still, unbelievably, quite popular. It is committed - absolutely - to killing all non Muslim Israelis (& many of the Muslim ones too, for supporting Israel). It’s not an idle commitment. We saw what happens when the border is breached - an abomination, an orgy of depravity. I’d love people like you to visit the Nova Exhibition to see for yourself the images and videos taken by the butchers themselves. Then consider whether Israelis (not just the govt which many, many people dislike) are justified in wanting to destroy Hamas. Then… consider how one would do that, given Hamas’s propensity to put their own civilians directly in harms ways for propaganda purposes (see video below as one of many example). It’s extraordinary, but completely consistent, that having built more tunnels than a large city subway, Hamas built precisely zero tunnels to protect civilians. Why do you think that is? Again, watch this video for answers. Every child fatality is appalling. But given Hamas’s meticulously documented tactics, it is a miracle that the ratio of combatant to civilian fatalities is what it is (even using Hamas’s propaganda numbers). Gazans have received more aid per capita than (likely) any people on Earth. They deserve a government that uses that money to build up, not down; to teach their children to thrive, not die. If and when they do, the violence ends and they flourish. And Israelis meanwhile will no longer face that particular existential threat and would likely vote for a very different type of peacetime government, one which would take a very different approach to the ongoing settlements. None of this is simple, despite the implication in your tweets (a staggering one in five of which relate to Israel, as opposed to so many other horrors in the world). But the alternative is perennial violence and misery. Richard I’ve done you the courtesy of replying but I’m certain that even if every single one of your assumptions and prejudices were forensically disproven, your general position & israel obsession would be completely unmoved. Please do visit the Nova Exhibition and then try to do some ‘independent critical thinking’.

1000 days ago the people of Israel saw firsthand what would happen if they relaxed their border. Before the bodies had even been counted, western cities were filled with morons attacking Israel and cheering the butchers. They absolutely wouldn’t if these were their neighbours

This is Julie, a 40-yr old elephant who spent decades in a Portuguese circus, Thanks to the Pangea Trust she is now free from chains, bullhooks & isolation, & can meander, bathe, & eat all the hay, bananas, apples she wants at their magical 1,000 acre haven in Portugal - Europe’s first large scale sanctuary. A wonderful moment for Julie and for all the elephants who will be joining her. My late Mum supported Pangea. I hope many many others will too 🙏🐘🌏❤️👏

In yesterday’s debate on the govt’s plans to hand Chagos to Mauritius (& pay them a fortune), I didn’t hear a single Labour backbencher speak in favour. There are so many reasons why it’s an appalling plan- for our security, our finances, and for the environment. We are handing one of the most biodiverse and pristine areas with near 100% protection today to a country that ranks amongst the lowest in terms of nature protection and whose politicians have already admitted they will allow industrial fishing to return to 99% of the waters. This was one of the great environmental successes in my lifetime, and we are simply knocking it on the head - for no obvious reason.

Two barrels from Lord Deben, formerly John Gummer. He’s not a tribal Tory by any stretch, but like many he is incandescent about the government’s plans to undermine one of the world’s most valuable (marine) nature reserves. The Chagos deal is a disaster on every level. Very powerful intervention 👏
