This morning, I conducted an unannounced inspection at Queens... College, Yaba, Lagos, to assess its current infrastructure, leadership, and the welfare of the students. Upon my arrival at 7:45 AM, I was pleased to see the majority of students lining up for assembly, with both the academic and non-academic staff, including the principal, already present and ready to begin the school day. During my visit, I held separate discussions with students, teachers, and the principal to better understand their challenges and needs. It is clear that the school requires significant infrastructural improvements to adequately and safely accommodate its students and staff. Queens College, established almost 100 years ago, has long surpassed its original capacity. To ensure that our students benefit from an appropriate student-to-teacher ratio, sufficient resources, and adequate facilities for boarding and feeding, we must maintain a standard capacity across all Unity Schools and Federal Government Colleges. In line with our commitment to promoting quality assurance in education, the Federal Ministry of Education will collaborate with Principal Obabori and the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) to redesign, refurbish, and build new facilities at Queens College, including a library, dining areas, hostels, and classrooms. Over the next several months, I will be conducting unannounced visits to other Unity Schools and Federal Colleges. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s mission for the education sector is simple: to provide better education for all. This is the goal that the Ministry and I are dedicated to achieving. I extend my thanks to the principal, teachers, and students for their warm reception and look forward to working with the school’s leadership to ensure better pay and welfare packages for our teachers and improved educational outcomes for our students. #EducationForAllshow more

OAU students are suffering. The 72-hour lecture boycott by... the students' union yielded no results. We had a very efficient transport system, and now we are forced by people who have their own private cars to enter CNG buses and motorcycles, which have proven to be very inefficient. To meet up with 9 AM classes, you have to leave your hostel by 6 AM. All motorcycles and commercial buses have been stopped. This is my fourth year in this school, and I have never experienced this type of queue. We are calling the attention of the public to the unnecessary plight OAU students have been subjected to. Please retweet for a wider audience whether you are an OAU student or not. We never asked for CNG buses. It should help make life better and not difficult for usshow more

Hills I will die on as an elementary school... teacher, who just wrapped up my 32nd year teaching! 1. If you are not PASSIONATE about blessing, serving, and empowering those you are blessed to teach, this profession is not for you. 2. Our students are not “ours”. They are their families, and we need to understand the magnitude of the calling, and responsibility we have to meet them where they are, and to help them to get to a place that they never thought possible. 3. As important as the curriculum is (and it IS important), the children in our classroom are what matter most. It’s our JOB to teach the curriculum to SERVE our students, NOT to use our students to push any sort of agenda. 4. Just as we teach our students to “leave things better than they found them”, we need to leave our students better than they were when they first entered into our classroom. Never let a day pass without pouring into each and every child. 5. We should not teach our children WHAT to think, but HOW to think, and how to use that knowledge to bless and serve not only themselves, but the world around them. 6. Our words carry little (or NO value), if we do not practice what we preach. 7. If we don’t make learning fun, children will view learning as a chore, and we we will be creating a generation of children who grow up to be young adults who don’t see the joy in learning new things. 8. The child that may be “difficult to reach/teach” (the one who may get on your last nerve more than you could ever imagine), is someone’s EVERYTHING. Get to know them as human beings, find out what motivates them, and do everything you can to help them to thrive. 9. Never tell a child they “can’t” do something. God has blessed each of them with far more strengths and talents than we may know, and it’s not our job to tell them what they can’t do, but to help them to realize all the things they CAN do. 10. The legacy you leave as a teacher will never be determined by your student’s test scores, but by the human beings you helped them become throughout their lives.show more

Expand to learn more ⬇️ 🟡 UVA was ranked as this year’s best school for free speech! Michigan Technological University, Florida State University, Eastern Kentucky University, and Georgia Tech round out the top five. 🔴 Harvard University is ranked as the worst school for free speech for the second year in a row. Columbia University and New York University round out the bottom three — each earning an “abysmal” rating. 🔴 Campus deplatforming attempts spiked by 400% since Hamas’ October 7th attack on Israel. 🔴 7 out of 10 students are uncomfortable publicly disagreeing with a professor about a controversial political topic. 🔴 54% of students report it’s difficult to talk about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. On 17 campuses where this issue was especially contentious, 75% or more marked the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as difficult to discuss. 🔴 1 in 4 students said it was unclear whether their college administration protects free speech. 🔴 1/3 of students approve of the use of violence at least “rarely” to stop campus speakers. 🔴 7 out of 10 students say it's at least “rarely okay” to shout down a speaker. OAU transport system was near perfect, adequate buses and... bikes, we rarely experienced queues until the First Lady came and decided she didn’t like the ease of transportation and introduced “change” by donating CNG buses. The school management in turn banned all motorcycles and commercial buses on campus and subjected over 30,000 students to just about 50 buses and a few tricycles. OAU has one of the largest land masses of any Nigerian university, yet students are now stranded daily. This is a Monday morning where students are supposed to rush for class, but they are stuck at the campus gate because of the inefficiency of the CNG buses. Students are struggling to go to class in the morning and in the evenings to even get back to their hostels. Students staying off campus now spend almost double to get to campus, all alternative transport means have been removed The management have cars to bypass all of this, but majority of students do not. Yet they released statements talking about how the buses will “ease transportation” and even implied students appreciate the system. Meanwhile, students are trekking, missing classes, and spending hours in queues. Let it be clear that students do not appreciate this system. It has made our lives harder, not better. What used to be a smooth system has now become a daily struggle. There are many pressing issues in this school, but they chose to dismantle a working transport system and replace it with hardship. We can no longer remain silent. Let the whole world know what OAU students are going through. Please if you come across this tweet, help us retweet it whether you are an OAU student or not We demand our towngboro buses and motorcycles back.show more

🚨BREAKING: Lake Stevens School District addresses altercations at anti-ICE... walkouts, Lake Stevens Police investigate The Lake Stevens School District today released a statement on altercations that arose during student-led walkouts against ICE activity. The District in its statement “recognize and value students’ First Amendment rights and respect their ability to engage in lawful, peaceful expression” and very clearing stated that “bullying, harassment, hate, or violence in any form” will not be condoned. The Lake Stevens Police Department (LSPD) is now investigating, in accordance with district policy, incidents of “a small number of students engaged in behavior” that did not meet the District’s “expectations for safety and respect.” Over 100 students from Lake Stevens High School walked out of school on Feb. 5. Among the tensions, a fight broke out during the Feb. 5 walkout at Lundeen Park, where an 18-year-old student suffered a scratch to his face and broken glasses after attempting to stop anti-ICE student protesters from throwing water bottles at passing cars. On Feb. 6, over 100 students from Cavelero Mid High School and Lake Stevens Middle School walked out of school to protest against ICE. A vehicle, at an overrun crosswalk with protesters near 91st Avenue East and Market Place, struck one student who did not require medical attention. The District is encouraging students who experienced or are experiencing harassment or retaliation for their views to report it to a trusted adult for it to be “promptly” address. When the District became aware of plans for the walkouts, administrators focused on campus safety, continued instruction for students who remained in class, communicated with families, and coordinated with LSPD to support safety in the surrounding area. Students who left campus without authorization were marked absent in accordance with established procedures, and caregivers are notified. “We remain committed to supporting our students, listening to concerns, and working together as a community,” The District wrote. “Our shared focus must continue to be the well-being, growth, and education of every child we serve.” The Lake Stevens School Board meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. today, February 11, at the Education Service Center, 12309 22nd Street NE, in Lake Stevens. Written community comments will be accepted before 4:00 p.m. today, or community members can deliver comments in person during the meeting. The School Board meeting will focus on the adoption of a Resolution related to Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) membership, approval of donations, and infrastructure bids. 📸Source: Video and images provided to the Lynnwood Times by a reader who would like to remain anonymous.show more

Hills I will die on as someone who has... coached high school football for over 29 years: 1. If you are not PASSIONATE about blessing, serving, and empowering those you are blessed to coach, this profession is not for you. 2. As much as we need to know our trade, getting to know (and to love), our players is far more important. 3. This is an INTENSE game, and it’ll never be “just a game”, but it IS a game. Remember that when you’re with your team, and more importantly, remember that when you’re with your family. 4. Just as we teach our athletes to “leave things better than they found them”, we need to leave our athletes better than they were when they first entered into our program. Never let a day pass without pouring into each and every individual. 5. Life is complicated enough, let’s not complicate the game in such a way that we take the joy of it away from others. In other words… Keep it simple. 6. Our words carry little (or NO), value, if we don’t practice what we preach. WE as coaches should be learning and growing each and every day, just as we expect our athletes to. 7. As much as we all want to win those championship rings for our athletes, make sure you don’t lose your wedding ring in the process. 8. The athlete that may be “difficult to reach/teach” (the one who may get on your last nerve more than you could ever imagine), is someone’s EVERYTHING. Get to know them as human beings, find out what motivates them, and do everything you can to help them to thrive. 9. Be where your feet are. Don’t fall into the trap of chasing logos and thinking that a higher division, a bigger school, or going from HS to college, or even college to the pros, is going to be more rewarding or fulfilling. 10. The legacy you leave as a coach will never be determined by your wins and losses, but by the lives you were able to change for the better!show more

Tragedy struck Islamic Senior High School at Abrepo in... Kumasi, Ashanti Region, when a Form Three student, identified only as Abass, fell to his d£ath from the top floor of the school’s administration block. The incident occurred in broad daylight during school hours, leaving students and staff deeply shocked as many rushed to the scene. Reports indicate that prior to the incident, Abass, a Business student who was serving as Boys’ Prefect, had allegedly been caught in an inappropriate situation with a female student by a teacher. The matter was reported to the school authorities, who subsequently summoned Abass’s mother for a disciplinary meeting to discuss the issue and determine appropriate consequences. According to persons close to the family, including his mother and uncle, as well as some students, Abass became deeply distressed after learning that his mother had been called to the school and even informed her of his intention to hàrm himself. Those who knew him revealed that he had been struggling emotionally for some time and had previously made statements about taking his own lïfe. Tragically, his family members and peers reportedly did not take these warnings seriously, assuming he was not serious. School authorities confirmed they had no prior knowledge or indication of his su!c!dal intentions. The bòdy of the deceased has since been laid to rest in accordance with Islamic tradition.show more
