Fixed this small bug in Linear’s app today which... I often see in other apps as well. Here’s a small before/after. The issue: When you open a popover inside a modal (think a custom select), clicking outside the popover to close it also closes the modal. The desired behavior is to close the select on click outside while keeping the modal open. This often happens because custom dropdowns or select components are rendered in a portal. The modal then treats the interaction as an outside click because, technically, the dropdown isn’t inside the modal in the DOM, it’s rendered elsewhere via a portal. The fix depends on your setup, whether it’s Radix/Base UI, fully custom etc. But since you now know the cause of it, you can ask your agent to fix it for you!show more

“At 6:00 this morning the Fire Department was alerted... to a report of a fire at 2086 Anthony Avenue. We arrived to find heavy fire in two buildings and very quickly transmitted a 2nd alarm. It eventually became a 3rd alarm, bringing more than 40 fire and EMS units and 150 fire and EMS personnel to the scene. We had fire throughout two buildings, and unfortunately, we did have two fatalities,” said Chief of Department John Esposito. “We did unfortunately have a car parked on the closest fire hydrant. We’ve seen that now a couple of times in the last week throughout the City. We all know that we should not be parking on fire hydrants and when you park on fire hydrants, it slows us down. When we’re fighting a fire, seconds count.” The GNY Red Cross and NYC Emergency Management are on scene to assist displaced residents. FDNY Fire Marshals are investigating the cause and origin of the fire.show more
