First they removed silver from the quarters and dimes in 1964, then copper from the penny in 1982. Now the penny is dead. A funeral for the penny was held at the Lincoln Memorial in D.C. on December 20. This event was held to honor the penny after the U.S. Mint discontinued its production. The Senate's structure — two per state — was a compromise between large and small states at the Constitutional Convention. You can critique that compromise on federalist grounds all day, but calling it Jim Crow is just making things up. It's the intellectual equivalent of saying the Roman Empire was founded on TikTok algorithms. Wrong century, wrong concept, wrong everything — but it feels right to her audience, and that's all that matters.
