These are decades old municipal houses situated in Pretorius... Park. Occupants pay rental fees to the municipality. There are several issues with the houses, especially regarding maintenance and the management of leases. We made an oversight visit to the units with MMC for Human Settlements, Aaron Maluleka, and MMC for Corporate and Shared Services, Flora Monama. Today, we conducted a special operation targeting Cemetery View... and Plastic View Informal Settlements. We arrested over 90 illegal immigrants who are now being processed by Home Affairs. Deportations are expected in next few days following court approval. This is the beginning of a process to clean-up these areas. We have 800 South Africans who reside in Plastic View and they will be relocated by the City. We are owed over R2 billion by government departments (national and provincial). This campaign aims to raise revenue for the municipality. We held a successful Tshwane Ya Tima operation targeting... debt owed to the city by National Government Departments. We have a debtors book off over R1 billion, and the majority of those who owe the city are provincial and national government entities. The arm of accountability isn’t only reserved for households and businesses. We will hold our counterparts in the government with the same responsibility when it pertains to the payment for municipal services. Today’s #TshwaneYaTima operation amounted to over R18 million. Tshwane-owned water tankers are on the road providing water... to residents. We recently announced that we are abandoning contracted services for water tankers. From 1 April, City staff have been working to provide water to residents in need. We visited Hammanskraal hydrant collection points this morning along with Ward Councillors and MMC for Utility Services Cllr Frans Boshielo. While work is underway to stabilise water supply through infrastructure maintenance and repairs, residents must continue to receive adequate water supply.
