To clarify; Huge believer in safety above all else.... (For me personally) - but as a person who is still active, and loves working hard and doing (calculated) stunts, - and someone who has offered safety advice for years I have come to the conclusion that many modern wrestlers (passionate, enthusiastic, willing to do anything - like I was when I was younger so I get it 💯) don’t seem to be OPEN to the idea of slowing down or stopping the pushing of the envelope or raising of the bar. They are full of passion, drive and enthusiasm. I, believing that that is the case …and that said, if you’re going to continue to raise the bar, push the envelope et.- find the safest way possible to do it. Rehearse when need be, walk through the stunt, utilize crash pads (large ones) or whatever mitigates risk. Unless a company mandates safety this will never voluntarily be done by modern wrestlers. My generation was told to “slow down” - we didn’t, we kept pushing. As a result of this, wrestlers needs to be our own best advocate for us and our opponents while expressing our matches / art in the way we like. It’s taken me a few days to put this... week into words because I really just wanted to soak it all in with my family. I’m incredibly grateful to the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Sports Network for trusting me with this opportunity. It was a milestone in my career that I’ll never forget. I’m also grateful for women like Mary Shane and Cheryl Raye Stout, who helped pave the way for women like me. They set the standard and created opportunities I’m incredibly thankful to be a part of. When I was asked to step into the booth, I’d be lying if I said stepping into that role wasn’t a little intimidating. But I kept thinking about Joshua 1:9, a verse my dad has always reminded me of: “Be strong and courageous.” And somehow, it all came full circle. The person who taught me this game was the one handing me my scorecard on the same weekend the White Sox were celebrating his ’83 team. That’s a moment I’ll never forget. Sorry, I’m drunk: We don’t have many “little steps”... left to take or make. We won’t be together much longer. She will be taken; though I’ve known it for years, it doesn’t hurt less. She shined in an incredible way – a supernova. I was black-pilled after a terrible divorce complete w/ false accusations & later this woman came along; I was slow to trust & bitter but she made the world bright again. She made me smile. Yesterday my dog, Fischer, died suddenly and unexpectedly. I’m... still in shock, blindsided by it all. He was as central a member of my family as any person. I’d like to tell you his story, briefly. 8 years ago, my 12-year old dog, Bandit, died after a long battle with kidney disease. A week later on a fishing trip, my brother encountered an abandoned, starving dog that swam out to his boat. When no owner could be found, I reluctantly took the dog in, and named him Fischer. I’m so glad I did. Along with his older sister, Daisy, he was my pandemic dog, my hiking buddy, and my left armrest while watching tv or gaming. He loved pawing at Red XIII (which we jokingly called him, the counterpart to my other dog, a Torgal lookalike), and he loved play fighting me while I tried to make my bed after he would crawl in it during the night. He loved playing fetch, and especially curling up against me for safety during storms. He was 90 pounds of rambunctious devotion. And God he loved me. We unknowingly spent his final morning on a hike. He chased and ran and played like usual. It was a perfect last memory with him, doing what we loved doing together most. He was “a fine hound,” and one of my favorite blessings. We’re going to miss him so much, but are so thankful for his life. That’s the thing about gratitude. It commingles with grief in such a way that both can breathe. And in that way, I guess I can breathe, too. At least, that’s what I’m trying to practice. Every gasp of sadness is met with an exhale of gratitude. I know many of you loved seeing him on stream. The couch behind me may have a Red XIII-sized hole now, but I’ll always cherish the memories of us in that room. Maybe we’ll do a Fischer stream and talk about grief soon, but I’ll need a minute. TRUE Seasonal games, like Path of Exile, Marathon, or... even EFT (we'll see today), are designed in a way for players to engage with the seasonal content and then move on. Between seasons/leagues, I can play a new game, say Elden Ring, or God of War: Ragnarok, enjoy the game, and look at my calendar and know that on May 29th, at 1:00 PM PST, the new PoE league drops and I will LOG IN. And, that time away (whilst playing other titles) makes the return experience that much more enriched. This might be an odd segue, BUT... I still keep seeing posts about "concurrent players abysmally low, dead game," etc. People who are posting this stuff literally have zero IQ. I know it's all rage bait and engagement farm, but, sadly, it pushes a false narrative and poisons and seeds a negative perception that spreads throughout the gaming community; whether it's with EFT, Marathon, Hunt: Showdown, Path of Exile, and other seasonal games. And, I know when these types of posts acquire mass engagement because people come into stream every day asking, "this game isn't dead yet?" Just cuz a game is off season, doesn't mean it's dead lmao. Sucks cuz I know creatives at the studios probably catch wind of these posts and I'm sure it's a bit demoralizing and stuff... Marathon is still getting heat about it's concurrent player count; trust me, if UbiSoft Singapore are still pumping out content for that AAAA game, Skull and Bones, other studios will be just fine. Marathon, Marauders, EFT, Hunt: Showdown, etc., they ain't goin nowhere. GGG didn't necessarily come up with the philosophy, but they doubled down on it; kudos to them for taking the risk, paving the way for other seasonal games. W economy reset. W wipes.
