designers love to hate on raw, unfinished things. redesigning... the whole ios/watchos/macos/... ui after a decade is a brutal challenge for any design team! almost impossible to satisfy the expectation. most haters around here have never designed in a large organization like apple and are not aware of challenges such as politcs, opiniated stakeholder, impossible deadlines, the list goes on... i empathise with the ui designers in apple. yes! os26 and liquid glass feels rough at the moment! so did the ios7 at launch. it evolved. this will too. i appreciate the brave direction apple has taken with this liquid glass ui. yes it comes with challenges including readability, compatibility and more... let's stop b*tching about it and contribute to solutionise these challenges.show more

Apple iPhone 16 vs Pixel 9: Which one should... you buy? The iPhone 16 is more of an iterative upgrade over its predecessor, but the Pixel 9 brings several notable upgrades, especially in the camera, design and chipset. While the Tensor G4 may not be as fast as the iPhone 16’s A18 chipset, it no longer heats up and is pretty fast when it comes to multitasking and completing AI-powered tasks. If you are already a part of the Apple ecosystem and have the iPhone 14 or an older device, the iPhone 16 might make sense. On the other hand, the Pixel 9 with its smart AI features, solid design and capable cameras might appeal to to those who want a phone that will get software updates for years to come and want to enjoy the clean user interface stock Android has to offer.show more

On January 20, at Davos 2026, CATL was honored... with the World Economic Forum (World Economic Forum )'s 2026 MINDS Award, recognizing its groundbreaking project "Augmented Intelligence Leading Next-Generation Lithium-ion Battery Design," which has been acclaimed as a global benchmark for AI-driven industrial application. The project marks a fundamental shift from traditional "reverse design and trial-and-error experimentation" to "forward design with predictive intelligence before manufacturing." By integrating proprietary multimodal data across materials, design, processes and equipment, the initiative has built an intelligent battery cell design platform for the lithium-ion battery industry. The system supports customized performance targets and dynamic priority adjustments, achieving a design prediction accuracy of up to 95%. Compared with manual design, it generates recommendations in seconds and virtual cells in minutes, increasing design efficiency by 30%. CATL will continue to evolve AI from "enablement" to "creation," and from solving known problems to discovering new frontiers, building a cornerstone for the global energy transition. #CATL #WEF #Davos2026 #ArtificialIntelligence #BatteryInnovationshow more

At Uber a big problem for design teams and... engineering teams was design source of truth. No one knew what the app truly looked like, so weekly a bunch of designers would get into a meeting room and check that the engineers correctly implemented the figma designs that they made Now with coding agents throughput of changes has increased an order of magnitude and it has become impossible to manually keep up. Here we used the Revyl CLI to create a flow of every state in the Uber design, by navigating our mobile use agent on an cloud iOS simulator. This is something that would have taken a team of designers tens of hours to recreate manually; All done in less than an hour asynchronously with a simple prompt. Enable your team to know what your users are actually seeing and empower coding agents to give your users a delightful experience without any blindspots Get started with our new free trial and create a map for your own app 🗺️show more

Valthos builds next-generation biodefense. Of all AI applications, biotechnology... has the highest upside and most catastrophic downside. Heroes at the frontlines of biodefense are working every day to protect the world against the worst case. But the pace of biotech is against them: more powerful methods to design biological systems, with near-universal access, open up an increasing surface area of threats. In this new world, the only way forward is to be faster. So we set out to build the tech stack for biodefense. Our team of computational biologists and software engineers applies frontier AI to identify biological threats and update medical countermeasures in real-time. We are backed by $30M from OpenAI, Lux Capital, Founders Fund and others including Definition. We are actively hiring engineers to join in the mission - if that sounds like you, get in touch.show more

McConnell Releases New Photo and Update from Rehab Sen.... Mitch McConnell’s office released a new photo of the Kentucky senator with his wife, Elaine Chao, along with a personal statement and an update from the Senate’s attending physician. McConnell said: “I’m still working hard to get back to my full schedule of work in the Senate and in Kentucky, keeping up with intense physical therapy per my doctors’ orders. As always, I appreciate all of your continued well wishes, and I’m looking forward to getting back to the Senate and to Kentucky soon.” (Video: AI) The attending physician confirmed he continues to recover from a fall at home in June and is undergoing multiple physical therapy sessions daily. Childhood polio remains a significant factor in his mobility, and he has not yet been medically cleared to leave the rehab facility. His prolonged absence has also reignited calls from many for term limits and stricter requirements on attendance and health transparency for members of Congress.show more

It's been a really tough season for Martin Odegaard.... Horrible, unfortunate injuries. In and out of the team, constantly being questioned. He'll admit it himself that at times he hasn't been at his best when he has been fit and available. But that cameo today off the bench, that assist for Trossard.... The way he took responsibility, went and got the ball, broke the game open and made the decisive moment happen. Outstanding. A captain's moment when his team needed him the most. You could see what it meant to him.show more

Punch sits quietly at the edge of a small... stream, listening to the gentle sound of water flowing beside him. 🍎 In his tiny hands, he holds a bright piece of apple and takes a careful bite while his plush friend rests right next to him. After chewing for a moment, he turns and lifts the apple toward the little toy… as if inviting it to share the snack too. To most people, it’s just a stuffed toy. But to Punch, it’s a friend who sits with him by the water, sharing quiet moments together.show more

I love it when a retail store design incorporates... inspiration from its surrounding location. Kudos to Checkers in Franschhoek for this superb design. A beautiful shopping experience and they have a Starbucks too. Woolworths next door has also incorporated the essence of the area with an entrance covered in hanging grape vines and a generous wine selection from the local farms in the area. Considering the store size, the number of wines on offer is impressive. There’s no doubt that safe, leafy suburbs are becoming the suburbs of choice for South Africans. Office workers are securing office space closer to home and therefore more community shopping centres and store upgrades are coming up closer to home. The Winelands has exceptional demand for housing at the moment and even more so for secure, industrial sites. With very limited warehouse space in the Paarl, Stellenbosch, Wellington, Klapmuts and Simondium areas - there is an opportunity for commercial landlords to develop industrial parks that offer micro-units as well as security. There is also an opportunity for the storage players in the industrial sector to develop within the area. With so much space and plenty of farms, I can only see commercial opportunities for office, retail and warehousing in the Winelands.show more

Apple celebrates its 50th birthday next week, which is... a reminder that “Forrest Gump” has Hollywood’s best angel investment ever: Gump and Lt. Dan early in Apple. They get to Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak before the April 1976 launch and prior to first official $250k check from Mike Markkula, who briefly owned 1/3rd of Apple for his investment. That would value at Apple at $750k. Since Gump and Lt. Dan were unsophisticated shrimp guys instead of tech investors, they probably got pinched on valuation by Jobs and paid $100k for 10% of Apple. That would be worth $180m at the Apple IPO in 1980 ($1.8B market cap). An 1,800x return in 5 years. Gump is a loyal dude so probably sold everything when Jobs was booted in 1985. On the other hand, he thought Apple was a fruit company and is financially illiterate…so Gump is likely still holding that stake, which is now worth $300B+ (my calculator broke trying to figure out the ROI).show more

The UAPs/Drones seen all over Europe and in USA... in 2024 are breakaway technology according to the Cybertruck bomber from January. The Cybertruck bomber was one of the main stories at the very beginning of the New Year, on January 1, 2025. He blew up outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas. Here’s an excerpt from his alleged message about the recent drone sightings in New Jersey and New York: “What we have been seeing with ‘drones’ is the operational use of gravitic propulsion systems powered aircraft by, most recently, China in the east coast, but throughout history, the U.S. Only we and China have this capability. China has been launching them from the Atlantic from submarines for years, but this activity recently has picked up. … They are the most dangerous threat to national security that has ever existed…” He also said that governments are going to start World War III and that he needed to stop it. His message was urgent, and to attract attention he did the unthinkable—he took his own life.show more
