It’s true: You and your baby share a diet.... Babies are exposed to the flavors of the foods their mothers eat during pregnancy - which find their way into the womb via amniotic fluid, which babies are constantly ingesting and expelling. So if you want your baby to eat healthy, you’re well advised to do the same during pregnancy - allowing your child’s developing “flavor palate” to include the taste of vegetables (for example) even before they enter the world. One study suggested that consistent exposure to carrots while in utero made babies more likely to embrace the taste of cereal mixed with carrot juice later in infancy. Speaking of carrots, there’s even evidence that babies begin expressing their preference for certain flavors in the womb. On 3D ultrasound, babies in one study exhibited more “laughing faces” when exposed to carrot than they did when exposed to the taste of kale (which elicited more “crying faces”). While some of our expectant mums are famous for their mood swings (ahem, Murera), Tagwa has been as calm as ever. We can’t wait to meet her baby, whenever it arrives! When Danger Whispers Before It Screams: Eclampsia, and the Women We Are Still Losing Dear Women and Men, My dearies, no pregnant woman should convulse before we care, and this is not poetry, this is policy, this is science, this is humanity. When I watched that video, a woman convulsing in pregnancy, I felt my heart splinter, just a little, because I have stood in that room before, and I have fought that fight, and I have watched a shaking body argue with death. It is never sudden. It only looks sudden to those who arrive at the last sentence without reading the earlier chapters. That lifeless stare, that chaos of limbs, that trembling cry, it is the final paragraph of a story that could have been rewritten much earlier, and much more gently. We call it eclampsia, a name that sounds almost elegant, and yet it is one of pregnancy’s most ruthless murderers. It is what happens when blood pressure rises and rises, and then decides it wants more, more damage, more danger, more destruction. The brain rebels, the liver strains, the kidneys falter, and the woman, the woman who is carrying life, begins to lose herself. Sometimes it announces itself with blurred vision, and sometimes with swelling feet we excuse, and sometimes with a headache that drums and drums and refuses to be ignored. And then, suddenly, the body convulses, and the room fills with panic, and everyone asks, How did this happen? But before eclampsia, there is pre-eclampsia, and it is quiet, and deceptive, and almost polite. It comes with numbers slightly raised, with symptoms easily dismissed, with discomfort we normalize because women are taught to endure. We say, It’s stress, and It’s pregnancy, and It will pass. And we forget that danger rarely knocks loudly; it prefers to whisper first. And so we miss it. And then we mourn it. This is why antenatal care is not ceremony, not routine, not something to be postponed. It is a rescue mission. When a blood pressure cuff tightens around your arm, and when urine is tested for protein, it is not box-ticking, it is listening. It is watching. It is standing between a whisper and a scream. It is the difference between prevention and tragedy. So, my dear women, do not wait for your body to convulse before you seek help. Do not cradle pain in silence, and do not let culture, or fear, or false reassurance convince you that everything will be fine. Sometimes it will not unless we act, and unless we care, and unless we pay attention. Because truly, no pregnant woman should die. Not in a world that has magnesium sulphate to still the storm. Not when blood pressure can be controlled and babies can be delivered safely. Not when knowledge exists, and care can save both mother and child. And so, when next you see that video, do not scroll past, and do not sigh and move on. Let it interrupt you. Let it remind you to check a blood pressure, to attend that appointment, to insist on care. Let it remind you that antenatal care is not only about the baby, it is about the woman carrying life itself. Because eclampsia is not destiny, and it is not punishment, and it is not inevitable. Disturbing video uploaded by Chelsea Ann-Marie Shipp just one... month before she allegedly shot and killed 16-year-old Katelynn Stone after discovering her boyfriend impregnated the teen. The clip shows Shipp's response to a video by a random user who displays indifference towards men in relationships. In her reaction, the sound of a gun being cocked is audible, accompanied by the caption: "They say that I'm crazy, and sometimes I feel like I'm crazy." In March 2022, a little over a month later, Shipp became concerned that her boyfriend, Cody Arnold, could face consequences if his involvement in Katelynn Stone's pregnancy became public knowledge. So she visited Arnold's residence and fatally shot Katelynn Stone. Stone was discovered deceased at Cody Arnold's property after Chelsea Shipp's friend, Brandy Moon, informed authorities that Shipp had admitted to the crime, according to the affidavit. Both Shipp and Arnold were arrested and charged with murder, with bail set at $1 million.show more

In my practice, we often begin stress regulation with... breath, because the breath is the fastest way to signal safety to the brain. One of the breathing that I recommend the most is Box Breathing. How to do Box Breathing (4–4–4–4): Inhale through the nose - 4 Hold - 4 Exhale through the nose - 4 Hold - 4 Repeat for 3–5 minutes If holds feel stressful, remove them. Slow breathing alone works. Slow, rhythmic breathing has been shown to improve heart rate variability (HRV), reduce sympathetic overdrive, and support emotional regulation, key markers of nervous system balance. Who should practice: Anyone dealing with stress, anxiety, poor focus, emotional overwhelm, or sleep dysregulation. Who should avoid breath holds: Pregnancy Uncontrolled hypertension Panic disorders triggered by retention Recent cardiac or lung conditions Start gently. Breath should never feel forced. Before replying, please pay close attention to this scene.... This drama received a lot of criticism, especially for the changes it made to the original webtoon. One of the biggest criticisms was changing the female lead’s profession from a teacher in the webtoon to an office worker who became the male lead’s employee in the drama. Some viewers claimed that this pushed a male-dominance narrative, reduced the female lead’s independence, and placed her in a position where she was more at the mercy of the ML. I was reading some discussions about the drama recently, then I came across this interesting debate about this particular scene. So, both the male and female leads were drunk when they had a onenight stand, which later resulted in a pregnancy. Some viewers insisted that the drama should have placed the responsibility solely on the male lead, ‘he should have exercised more self control’ ‘the female lead didn’t give her consent’. so it was a back and forth convo as others felt that based on what was shown in the scene, both characters gave consent and therefore shared responsibility. Want your baby to embrace eating vegetables as part... of a healthy long-term diet? One key is eating them yourself - both early and often. That’s because science traces some of our earliest taste preferences back to the womb (where our taste buds begin developing as early as 8 weeks). As babies gestate they are exposed to the flavors of the foods their mothers eat, which transfer initially into the amniotic fluid - and, after birth, into breast milk. That’s right. Your baby is subtly tasting a wide variety of foods long before you ever introduce them by spoon. And this initial exposure can contribute mightily to future receptivity. Research suggests that babies whose mothers regularly consumed carrot juice, for example, during (and immediately following) pregnancy show a greater receptivity to carrot upon the initiation of solid foods. I love this video, shared to TT by lanazimet, of her 5 month old’s early experience with broccoli. Recognize that eating something directly is a far more intense experience - and one that activates the senses in different ways (think of smell and consistency) - but all told it appears that the verdict on broccoli was a positive one, likely undergirded by early exposure to the flavor.
