Not with the excitement of spotting a celebrity, but with the joy and warmth of recognition. That was the moment it clicked for me. Win isn’t a stranger to these kids. He’s not a celebrity who chose a random foundation for a one-time appearance. My opinion on Tour de France Champs Elysees route... change with adding Montmartre climb is clear… The last stage of the Tour de France is one of the most watched days of cycling for non-usual cycling viewers, if not the most. And you simply can’t have there a race where all you need is to watch the last 500 metres to know the results. And you also don’t want "unknown" riders like Groenewegen vs. Meeus to battle for the win. You want the biggest stars attacking there and battling for the win. Yes, it still might end in a sprint, but at least it won’t be 100% certain. Because the breakaway there didn’t succeed for 20 years now. Simply Paris and the Tour couldn’t refuse an opportunity to have one of the most beautiful races in one of the most watched cycling days of the year, instead of a regular boring race. They're too inexperienced to understand basic COIN principles. You must win over the locals. You have to meet with them, create every opportunity to connect. This is how the US gets to stay in extremely dangerous places around the world, and the unit responsible for it is CAPOC. It's manned by extremely charismatic and intelligent officers. Every event and encounter is accounted for, studied and eventually every loss is turned into a win. In Vietnam era terminology it's called winning hearts and minds. The majority of humans, by their core nature, are unwilling to attack a friendly face. Furthermore, when they connect with someone, genuinely, they are unlikely to betray them most of the time. Stack these events and the likelihood of immersion with the locals becomes high. Then you facilitate your strategic objectives, without any interference from the locals, because they're already on your side. What you don't do is a road-side execution, fit for a terror organisation. This doesn't just lose you the locals but creates an environment where people around the world want to actively see you harmed, or lose. Every local you kill has hundreds of friends and potentially thousands of associations. Do this enough times and the entire city will want to hunt you down. I have not seen enough about the decision from... Mike Vrabel and Tim Kelly to go for 2 down by 8 last night. Here’s why I loved it: 1) NFL teams this season have been successful on 55% of two-point conversion attempts. The odds were in the Titans’ favor. 2) Will Levis was dealing in the 2nd half. 3) Titans still had all three timeouts and the two-minute warning. 4) Miami struggled to move the ball on offense all night. Their three scoring drives went for 12, 7, and 59 yards. 5) If successful on the two-point conversion, a stop on defense and a TD wins the game. If unsuccessful, you can still send it to OT. 6) Titans offense marched down the field, scored the TD to make it a one possession game and essentially told Miami, “we are going for two because we know you cannot stop us right now.” The odds are in your favor. It’s a good mathematical decision. You want to psych out an opposing offense? Give them the ball knowing they need to run the clock out, or you are going to have a chance to WIN the game, not send it to overtime. They saw what your offense just did to their defense. They saw your QB on the sideline screaming and hyping everyone up. Cutting the lead to six put WAY more pressure on the Dolphins offense. You want to hype up your defense? Put them back on the field knowing your offense just did their job. Put them back on the field knowing a stop and a TD wins it. At that point, they aren’t in the mindset of “we need a stop to have a chance to go to OT.” They are thinking, “let’s go out here, get a stop, and give our offense a chance to WIN.” There’s a fundamental difference in playing to WIN and playing NOT to LOSE. This was a decision by a coaching staff that was playing to WIN. Brilliant game by Vrabel and Kelly. Brilliant execution late in the game by the offense and the defense. What a series. That’s what playoff hockey is all... about. About as evenly matched as you’ll ever see. To win the hardest championship in sports, you need health and a little puck luck. The Bolts battled the health part all season long, but did not have the puck luck this series. That’s not to take anything away from Montreal. They finished with the same points. The amount of sticks they got in the way of passes this series was clinical. They got one more bounce than the Bolts. That’s playoff hockey. Congrats to the Habs on the series win. The inability to win home playoff games and not making it out of the first round has, unfortunately, become numbing. That’s not the worst thing in the world. That means we have lofty expectations.
