Goidhoo Atoll, a natural atoll administratively part of Baa... Atoll. The French navigator Pyrard de Laval’s ship, Corbin, was wrecked near Innafushi — the only uninhabited island in the atoll. Pyrard provided a detailed historical account of the Maldives. The island was called “Kandu Goidhoo” — “the Goidhoo of the sea.” The atoll itself was often called Goifulhafehendhoo, and among people of Baa Atoll, it was called Falhuthere. The three inhabited islands of Goidhoo Atoll were used as banishment or “prison islands” until recently. One of the first telecommunications from Male’ was connected to Goidhoo atoll, the prison islands.
