What about labor?!?! The biggest pushback we get on... timber framing is "my labor tho!" Yes, timber framing takes time. Yes, it takes a little more skill than stick framing. (This feels unfair to say because there are some spectacular modern carpenters out there, but. But your basic build quality is fairly low, on average.) However, it is completely possible to slowly build your own timber frame over time in a way that simply isn't possible with a stick frame build that's sitting out in the weather. A friend is about to raise his 12x16 timber frame cabin (it will be used as a workshop) after working nights and weekends for a year+ That time would have passed, anyway. Last I checked, Netflix doesn't pay you to watch it. If you're doing timber framing for yourself on your own time, why worry about the "labor cost?" Early Thursday morning, the FDNY responded to a fire... at 505 East 184 Street in The Bronx, bringing over 280 firefighters and EMS personnel to the scene. “Upon arrival, units encountered heavy fire on the top floor extending into the cockloft and through the roof,” said Chief of Fire Operations Kevin Woods. “Members stretched multiple handlines to the top floor and into the cockloft space, opening up to reach fire in an area that is inherently difficult to access.” One person was found dead in the original fire apartment. During operations, four firefighters sustained minor injuries. FDNY Fire Marshals are working to determine the cause of the fire.show more

Here is a closer look at that Matthews gas... line fire. This video was sent to us by a neighbor. This is right after it started. You can see both trucks from the contracting company on fire. Firefighters say this started when crews hit a natural gas line while drilling to place new power poles. It was extinguished when crews closed the pipe with a hydraulic press. Glasgow Central fire looks like it was made worse... when someone used a water extinguisher, as the person filming stated they were using water on an electrical fire/lithium battery. Moments later, there was what looked like a large battery explosion from the vape shop, these battery's are common cause of fires as they can become unstable.show more

Just before 6 a.m. Thursday, the FDNY received a... call for smoke coming from a building at 3435 Dekalb Avenue in the Bronx. Upon arrival, units discovered fire on the sixth floor of the building and in the cockloft. "When we arrived, we had a rapidly extending fire in that cockloft. Members cut the roof, started getting hoselines in place and operating," Deputy Assistant Chief Paul Miller said. "The building had blown-in insulation, which tends to hold the heat and smoke in." Additionally, two vehicles were parked on hydrants in front of the fire building, which delayed responding units in getting water on the fire. Seventy-five units, totaling about 225 fire and EMS members, responded to the 4-alarm fire. Four people suffered minor injuries—two firefighters and two civilians. The fire was placed under control at 10:40 a.m. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.show more

“At 6:00 this morning the Fire Department was alerted... to a report of a fire at 2086 Anthony Avenue. We arrived to find heavy fire in two buildings and very quickly transmitted a 2nd alarm. It eventually became a 3rd alarm, bringing more than 40 fire and EMS units and 150 fire and EMS personnel to the scene. We had fire throughout two buildings, and unfortunately, we did have two fatalities,” said Chief of Department John Esposito. “We did unfortunately have a car parked on the closest fire hydrant. We’ve seen that now a couple of times in the last week throughout the City. We all know that we should not be parking on fire hydrants and when you park on fire hydrants, it slows us down. When we’re fighting a fire, seconds count.” The GNY Red Cross and NYC Emergency Management are on scene to assist displaced residents.
