In 2020 I entered a summer shredding contest. This... was my gameplan to go from 18% body fat to 10% or less body fat in 12 weeks: (Applicable no matter where you’re starting, bookmark this) 1. Eat bodyweight (in lbs) x 10-12 calories daily (more on higher activity days, less on lower) 2. Eat 1g of protein per pound of bodyweight (if you’re starting more overweight you can aim for goal bodyweight) 3. 10K+ steps daily and progressively more cardio sessions (0 - month 1, 2-3x45 minutes/wk month 2, 5-6x45 minutes month 3) 4. Lifted 5x/week on a push, pull, legs, rest, upper, lower, rest split with a focus on: - every set ending near failure - fighting to get stronger week by week - managing volume (less volume towards end of the cut for recovery) 5. Limited alcohol to only a few drinks/month 6. Slept 7 hours/night minimum 7. 5g creatine daily 8. Drank around a .75-1 gallon of water + electrolytes daily 9. Refeed days (bodyweight x 15 calorie goal), 1x/wk in month 3 The framework is really this simple to drop body fat. Adjustments will need to be made based on biofeedback & weight data. If you aren’t losing at a rate of 0.5-1% bodyweight per week, you must: - increase your average weekly movement (steps or cardio minutes) - and/or decrease your average weekly calorie intake. Why does my cat stalk towards me as though... I am prey? I only caught the tail end of this occurrence in the video, but about once a week I notice my cat (5 months) stalking towards me like this (she typically starts from much farther away and goes even slower). The weirdest part to me is that she only really does it towards me, not my husband. I’ve also seen her stalk prey before and she doesn’t usually continuously move in slow motion like this, she typically walks forward, pauses and assesses for a while, and then goes for the kill. Usually when she does this to me, she ends up snapping out of it due to movement or sound elsewhere, so she’s never pounced or anything - at most she jumps up next to me and then goes back to normal. I’m a new cat owner so this may be typical behavior, but it is so bizarre to me that this behavior seems reserved for me alone - not my husband, not our dog who she loves wrestling with (thanks reddit for clearing that up), and not the bugs she preys on. I was laughing in this video because she was cracking me up, but sometimes it genuinely freaks me out a bit, I feel like prey and I don’t like it 😶 I would love to hear any thoughts on the matter, if nothing else just enjoy this clip of my cat being an apex predator lolshow more

I wanted to take a moment to talk about... my early stages in golf and hopefully this helps someone out there getting into the game. This video is from 2013, around 1 year into golf and I was shooting mid- low 90s. My Dad was a teaching pro so the fundamentals came easy. However, all my friends at the time played since they were 5 years old and I felt a ton of pressure trying to “catch up”. Golf never seemed to come easy for myself. I struggled really bad for 2-3 years before I saw any true progress. I was never a “natural” at the game At this time, my main goal was to play college golf so a lot of progress needed to take place. So, we moved to Florida as a family for my dads job and that’s when everything changed. I began to practice each day for 3-5 hours. I realized since I wasn’t a natural, I had to work harder then everyone. My scores began to drop into the 70s consistently after 3-4 years of playing. When I started seeing these results I got even more motivated. To play in college I needed to be posting low scores in competitive junior tournaments. These environments I believe took my game even to another level. I began shooting in the low 70s and 60s on a consistent basis. Getting to this point easily took 5 years of grinding, while some of my friends it took 2-3 years. I did end up playing 4 years of D2 college golf and posted a lot of scores I’m super proud of. My overall point is people progress at different speeds in this game. I realize not everyone can’t practice 5 hours a day. But if you haven’t seen results right away, or even years into the game, never give up. Something might click and everything could change!show more

Can serotonin syndrome trigger dancing eyes? Apparently the answer... is (rarely) YES. Do you know the 5 'Aspen' tips to differentiate the opsoclonus myoclonus syndrome from other causes ? We frequently think of the syndrome in association w/ autoimmune and also paraneoplastic (causes), however we need to think bigger. A nice reminder provided by Fernanda Lustosa Cabral Gomez and colleagues in Movement Disorders Clinical Practice. Key Points: - Serotonin syndrome: cause is excessive serotonergic activity in the central and peripheral nervous system. - The cause is usually medication use or drug interactions. - The authors show a case w/ serotonin syndrome. - He was on fluoxetine, lithium, amitriptyline, and clonazepam. - Bupropion was then added. - Clues to the underlying diagnosis in this case were "flushing, diaphoresis, tachycardia, tachypnea, opsoclonus, spontaneous myoclonic jerks, and stimulus sensitive myoclonus." - How did they treat it? Stop psychotropic medications and added diazepam. Resolved in a few days. My take: Here are my top 5 'Aspen' tips to differentiate 'dancing eyes' from other syndromes: 1 - Examine the eye movements and remember the eye movements in opsoclonus: Multidirectional → Horizontal + Vertical + Torsional + Oblique; there is no intersaccadic interval (continuous bursts) 2 - Conjugate (no dissociation between the eyes) 3- Eye movements are triggered or worsened by fixation and voluntary gaze holding 4 - Associated neurological signs: myoclonus, cerebellar signs, encephalopathy (paraneoplastic, parainfectious, autoimmune) 5 - Flutter is flat (horizontal); opsoclonus is omnidirectional and ongoing. More tips: Opsoclonus-myoclonus syndrome: look for all the potentially associated features including: myoclonus, opsoclonus, and occasionally ataxia, encephalopathy, and tremor. The eyes are the key: look for saccadic intrusion characterized w/ uninterrupted bursts of conjugate eye movements. The authors remind us to think about the eye movements as "chaotic, arrhythmic, and multidirectional." In young kids think neuroblastoma. In adults think paraneoplastic (automimmune), parainfectious, or idiopathic. Cancers are present in 60% of adults. The authors remind us that "toxins and drugs are rare causes." They also remind us not to forget about "cocaine, amitriptyline, phenytoin, venlafaxine, cefepime, scorpion venom, organophosphates, lithium toxicity and their case that was serotonin syndrome." Facial reconstruction of a plastered skull of an 8,000-year-old... Anatolian farmer from Tepecik-Çiftlik, Turkey The people of Tepecik-Çiftlik primarily practiced primary inhumation, though a small number of secondary burials are also present. Most individuals were buried in simple earth graves, while some infants were interred in pots. A notable feature of mortuary practices at the site is the frequent secondary intervention in burials, especially the removal of skulls. This practice affected males and females across all age groups except infants, with around 70% of adult graves reopened for skull extraction. Evidence also indicates that skull plastering was performed on individuals of both sexes, including children and possibly young adults. While often interpreted as part of an ancestor cult, such practices likely had multiple functions, including ritual and symbolic uses related to community identity, fertility, or ceremonial activity. Skull 106 A (the reconstructed individual) differs from other plastered skulls in several ways. The left eye socket was fully filled with plaster, while the right was only partially filled, and both ear openings were sealed. Human canine teeth were found embedded within the plaster of the left eye socket. Additional plaster was preserved in the nasal cavity and left infratemporal region. Notably, remains of a multilayered facial mask were preserved, covering parts of the face including the forehead and right eye area. The mask’s structure, composed of layered materials with small քար-like inclusions, is particularly distinctive. Overall, the plastered skulls from Tepecik-Çiftlik show varying degrees of preservation, with plaster serving as a base for facial masks. Differences in preservation likely reflect both material quality and prolonged use over time, with evidence suggesting repeated restoration and modification of these skulls, similar to practices observed at other Neolithic sites in Southwest Asia.
