Has anyone had a mystical experience in a temple... before? You don’t need to share details (if not comfortable), but curious if it still happens. Kirtland Temple Mysticism: 1. The wind A sound like a rushing wind filled the house. The whole congregation stood up at once, moved by something none of them could see. Men began speaking in tongues. Then George A. Smith told them what he was looking at. The temple was full of angels. 2. The horseman Roger Orton said he saw an angel on a horse of fire with a flaming sword in his hand. Five more rode behind him. They circled the temple and held the line against whatever was trying to get in. He was not the prophet. He was one of the seventy. He said it out loud and men wrote it down. 3. The four words Edward Partridge wrote in his journal the day it happened. Many spoke in tongues. Some saw visions. Frederick Williams saw an angel. Then he went back and squeezed four more words in above the line. Or rather the Savior. 4. The neighbor Heber Kimball described the angel at the dedication the way you would describe a man who came to your door. Tall. Black eyes. White hair. A robe down near the ankles. Sandals on his feet. Sent to accept the house. That is not how people invent myths. That is how people report. 5. Easter, 1836 Easter Sunday. Passover week. Two men pulled the veil shut and prayed in silence. Christ stood on the breastwork of the pulpit and said the house was accepted. Then Moses. Then Elias. Then Elijah, in the same season Jewish families the world over were setting a place for him and opening the door. 6. Fifteen weeks People talk about the Kirtland Pentecost like it was one night. It was fifteen weeks. January 21 to May 1, 1836. Tongues, prophecy, fire on their heads, angels in the aisles, and the Lord himself.show more
