#Oliviaincident; #VCFD is on scene of a Brush Fire... in the river bottom off of Olivias Park Drive in Ventura. Firefighters have stopped forward progress, and the fire is currently estimated at 28 acres. The fire was initially reported as 1-2 acres in medium brush with a moderate rate of spread. VCFD is in unified command with @venturacityfire and @oxnardfiredepartment. Approximately 100 firefighters were engaged in this incident, including engines, water tenders, dozers, hand crews. Crews will be remaining on scene for the next few hours mopping up hotspots within the fire footprint. The Library Fire in the area of the Reagan... Library in Simi Valley has been mapped at 8.6 acres. The road to leading to the Reagan Library has now been re-opened. The fire was initially reported at 1:38pm, and approximately 70 firefighters were dispatched to the incident. Multiple units have been now been released from the fire, but some firefighters will be remaining on scene for the next few hours mopping up hot spots and reinforcing control lines. VCFD’s UAS (drone) operators are on scene and surveying the fire footprint from the air to ensure all hotspots are identified and fully extinguished by ground crews. There were no injuries reported, no structures damaged or threatened and no evacuation orders issued. The cause of the fire is under investigation.show more

#mountainfire update; The fire is currently at 20,596 acres... with 7% containment. There are currently 2,420 personnel on scene, including 378 engines, 20 Water Tenders, 34 Hand Crews, 17 Dozers and 14 helicopters. VCFD is in unified command with CAL FIRE Incident Management Team 5 and we are incredibly grateful for the support of our mutual aid partners. Damage assessment teams are in process of identifying and verifying the number of structures that have been impacted. Our thoughts are with all of members of our local Ventura County community through this devastating incident. The fire is burning in steep, rugged terrain with dry and receptive fuels that continue to challenge containment efforts. Fire activity has decreased due to a decrease in winds over the area. A large animal evacuation center has been established at the Earl Warren Showgrounds in Santa Barbara. A public information hotline has been established. Affected residents can call 805-465-6650 for assistance. Evacuation orders remain in place. Residents are encouraged to visit for the most current evacuation information. An evacuation center has been setup at Padre Serra Parrish at 5205 Upland Rd in Camarillo. #SandyFire afternoon update: Firefighters on the ground and in... the air continue battling the Sandy Fire in steep, stubborn terrain. The images and video below are from the northeastern portion of the fire near the Sequoia Ave area in Simi Valley. Crews are deploying hose lines and constructing handlines to strengthen containment efforts, while air tankers continue dropping retardant ahead of the fire to slow its spread. The fire is located on the right-hand side of the southbound 101 freeway at the 23 freeway. Hose lines have been extended, and helicopters are making water drops at the head of the fire. Hundreds of firefighters and four night-flying helicopters are working hard to contain it. Evacuation orders and warnings are still active in the area.show more
