Slimy Fox 🦊 For this shoot, I decided to... try something a little different. A playful bath-time set featuring Wakamo, with a touch of lubricant for that glossy, wet finish. 😏 I’ll admit, it was my first time experimenting with this idea. It was suggested to me, and it turned out to be far more fun than I expected. That wet, glistening texture really changed the entire mood of the shoot. 🌀 #Live3D #Live2D #Live2DWIP 🌀 Today, I’d like to... share two of the three methods I use to create joint twisting in my Live2D-based 2D Pseudo-3D concept. On the right is the Glue Joint: The basic idea is to use Glue to connect two pseudo-3D ArtMeshes. By taking advantage of Glue’s weight settings, it can create an effect similar to a 3D joint. Once the weights are set up, it can move very freely with a relatively low amount of work. However, it also shares the same weakness as 3D joints: when rotated at large angles, it can produce unpleasant twisting and distortion. On the left is the Hand-Bent Joint: The basic idea is to add bending Keyforms directly to a Warp Deformer, then manually sculpt the ideal deformation. This method can create the most detailed and refined joints, depending entirely on how the rigger designs them. The downside is that it requires much more work. Every additional degree of freedom requires a significant amount of manual adjustment. These two joint methods have almost opposite characteristics, so in actual Live3D work, I choose the most suitable method depending on the situation. For example, in this hand model, I used Hand-Bent Joints for the arm twisting and fingers, while the wrist uses a Glue Joint.✨show more

Facial reconstruction of an 8,500-year-old man from Karelia The... hunter-gatherers of Karelia belonged to the EHG cluster - a mixture of ANE and WHG. Their Y-DNA lineages were diverse, including Q, J, and R1a, as were their mtDNA lineages. These included ANE- and WHG-associated haplogroups such as U5, U4, U2e and R1b, but also C, an East Eurasian mtDNA lineage. Morphologically, they were equally diverse, encompassing an ancient Northern European type with Cro-Magnon features, an ancient Baltic European type with Cro-Magnon features, and an ancient Paleo-Mоngоloid type with Cro-Magnon features. This specimen was described by the anthropologist Mikhail Gerasimov as follows: This skull possesses a significant number of archaic features characteristic of typical Cro-Magnons. It is probably closest to the Predomost skull. However, alongside these archaic features, a number of others not characteristic of the Cro-Magnon type emerge: a relatively high vault, a thin outline of the cheekbones, and a general gradation of the facial region - all of these are no longer Cro-Magnon traits. However, the combination of all these features allows us to characterize it as an Archaic European, and physiognomically, this type is most closely related to the Baltic type: an upturned nose, a small prochilia of the mouth, and a weakly projecting chin - all of this corresponds to the Baltic type. We do not think it likely that it was specifically at this time that the Baltic anthropological type began to develop in this area. But later, having undergone a complex path of epochal change, having become considerably more gracile, it yielded the modern Baltic type, in which, however, it is not difficult to discern the features of the ancient Oleni Ostrov man. A detailed reconstruction gives a clear picture of a man with a pear-shaped face, a large upturned nose, a sloping forehead, and deep-set eyes. Even today, among the northern Pomors, one can sometimes encounter precisely this type of ancient Baltic man. He had a large cranial length of 188 mm, small cranial width of 136 mm, and a massive cheek width of 151 mm.show more

Axie started in 2018. Creatures you could collect, battle,... and raise while learning about a magical new technology called blockchain. Part of the original concept were axie homes called Terrariums. Places where your axies could live, get stronger, and harvest resources. Battles ended up getting prioritized instead, and Terrariums got shelved. But for eight years, that original idea held a special place in our hearts. Terrariums are a nod to that original dream. We're hard at work and our goal is to deliver the first version in late June. Here's how they'll work on day one: 1. You activate a plot of land. 2. You put your axies on it. 3. Every hour, the world ticks forward on its own. While you're away, your land is working. 4. It earns a reward called bAXS, the in-game currency that feeds back into the broader Axie economy. 5. To stay running, your land burns a fuel called Lunium. You get it two ways: buy packs, or let your land generate it slowly for free. 6. How much you earn scales with your axie power, a stat currently called Atia's Flame. Stronger (collectible) axies earn more points. More points means a bigger share of the prize pool. 7. Each land type has its own pool, split between everyone who owns that type. 8. There will be free terrariums that can be used to earn axie experience points (but not bAXS). These should also be useful for onboarding newcomers. The day-to-day is simple by design as we want to make sure that the gameplay is easy to grasp at first and doesn't become a grind for landowners. Helitack crews serve as highly skilled and productive aerial... firefighting resources. These crews are specially trained in the tactical and logistical use of helicopters for fire suppression, serving as a primary initial attack resource, often first on-scene to assess the wildfire. The U.S. Wildland Fire Service Boise Helitack crew is unique in the sense they are the only Interior-firefighting unit that operates a Type 1 helicopter for helitack operations. They respond to wildfires with a full complement of firefighting tools, 660-gallon water dropping bucket, and 12 firefighters on board – more than any other rotor-wing firefighting asset in the country. Their UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter is one of the most safe, effective, and efficient firefighting aircraft in all wildfire response. Like other wildland fire resources, they respond where they are needed most, supporting wildfire operations across the country.show more

004/100 Buttons. A bit of the process on building... an animation. When looking at a finished animation or in this example a finished button, it can look quite complex inside the CSS. But when building it, it’s more like a lot of simple steps, one after another. Here I had the idea to make some kind of text animation like the footer logo on the Osmo site. I try to add the base animation with no complex easing, for example transition: translate 0.4s ease. Starting with just moving the one text from bottom to top and the other text to top. Adding a stagger, play around with it. Searching for a way to make it more circular. On the research I found the sin() function inside CSS which can build a more smooth non linear curve for the stagger which creates this circular effect. And step by step adding more complexity like, different easing for hover/hover-out, opacity, 3D transform and more. I use also the sin() function to rotate the letters, so the middle ones are getting more rotated than the outer ones. Another thing which helps is to add a small delay on hover, for example 0.05s or 0.1s, you don’t really see the difference, but when you hover pretty fast on and out it doesn’t get that jumpy. I’m using here GSAP’s SplitText to split every char into spans. And then I’m adding a CSS index variable to every span, starting from the center. SplitText can provide CSS index variables, but you cannot tell it from which direction. For the sin() it’s also important to have a max length, so I add another CSS variable with the max char number on it. Crafting 100 Buttons with Osmo ⏳ Total time: 63hshow more

Martial eagle (Slide 1) is stronger than bald eagle... (Slide 2). It is also a better hunter. It can take down larger, more challenging prey like antelopes or monitor lizards, unlike the bald eagle which relies more on fish and scavenging. The martial eagle’s predatory style is also more aggressive and versatile. Why is the bald eagle now used more by people? That is the power of marketing. The bald eagle is the national bird of the United States. It has been packaged in movies and clips to look more regal and powerful. They even replace its sound with a louder and more majestic call of a red tailed hawk. Watch the second clip and you'll hear their natural sounds. Also, when you type "eagle," the emoji that comes out is 🦅 which is that of bald eagle. That's the power of PR.show more

Facial Reconstruction of a 4,500-year-old proto-Aryan from Chuvashia The... individual belonged to the Proto-Indo-Iranian Fatyanovo-Balanovo culture. Morphologically, he represented a rare type found within this cultural group, characterized by distinctive facial skeletal features that have been described as “pseudo–sub-Saharan.” This form may represent a mixed population belonging to a separate anthropological variant. Similar traits have also been observed in the same region earlier (in the Neolithic Comb Ceramic/EHG type) and later (in skulls of the Abashevo culture, as well as among some modern Chuvash and Mordvin populations). This is one of the largest and most massive skulls in the Balanovo series. It is long-headed (cranial index 67.31), with a high, arched vault, broad forehead, projecting occiput, and small mastoid processes. The face is relatively small but appears massive, with slight prognathism, small eye orbits, a broad and low nose, and a strong subnasal spine. The maxilla is strongly forward-projecting, with deep canine fossae and prominent teeth. The mandible is large and massive, with a chin directed downward due to the obtuse jaw angle. The overall shape of the face, with its prognathism, flattened and broad nose, and a receding, almost “negative” chin, cannot, taken together, be attributed to a European, although individually both prognathism and a flat nose could occur as individual variations among Europeans. The described skull shows traits of two anthropological types. It is a hybrid. In it are combined features of the Mediterranean European with traits of the anthropological type we previously noted in the Neolithic population of the Balahna lowland (Comb Ceramic EHG), which displays pseudo-sub-saharan characteristics. This anthropological type might perhaps be termed equatorial or Dravidian-like. The graphic reconstruction makes it especially clear what the external appearance of this ancient hybrid may have been, which we define as Balanovo type B. (Mikhail Gerasimov, 1955)show more

Such sad news about Dr Michael Mosley ☹️ This... recent clip was profound and yet so very simple, "What we buy and then consume has a massive impact on our health.. I managed to reverse my Type 2 Diabetes without medication, simply by losing some weight, and changing my diet" It is said that the best of people are those who add value to other people's lives. Over 4 million in the UK have diabetes, and over 415 million have it world wide I can't explain the science, but the simple message of eating well and the impact it can have on our health eg reversing diabetes, is a massive game changer Michael articulated this - and so many other things - in a friendly, easy to understand way We were in Greece last week and it was very hot. Twice after midday I soaked my hat in water, and on both occassions it dried up in just a few minutes. The heat there at this time of year can be relentless My condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time. Thank you for all that you have done Michael. May you rest in peace 🙏show more

Facial reconstruction of a 4,500-year-old man from Khapuz-Depe, Southern... Turkmenistan The man belonged to the Namazga cultural horizon, which later transitioned into the Bactria–Margiana Archaeological Complex (BMAC). The anthropologists Ginzburg and Trofimova (1972) describe the cranial series from the region as follows: Male skulls from Khapuz-Depe, Kara-Depe, and Geoksiur are dolichocranial (CI 70.0), with very large cranial length (195.1 mm), large height (139.5 mm), and small breadth (136.1 mm). The forehead slope is moderate, the supraorbital region is well developed, and the face—while average in absolute dimensions—shows a relatively high facial index (55.1). The series is orthognathic, with strong horizontal facial profiling, a deep canine fossa, a high and strongly projecting nose, medium nasal breadth (NI 50.0), and low orbits. Taken together, these traits place the series within the Eastern Mediterranean type, widespread in antiquity across southern and frontal Central Asia. Female skulls differ in the expected direction of sexual dimorphism, showing relatively greater facial height. The population of the eastern region of Southern Turkmenistan on the right bank of the Tedjen River (Geoksiur-Depe and Khapuz-Depe) was mixed. Among the male skulls from Geoksiur and the female skulls from both series, the Eastern Mediterranean type clearly predominates; this type can be traced through the 3rd–2nd millennia BC and further east into southern Uzbekistan (Zaman-Baba, Chust, Dalverzin). Among the male skulls from Khapuz-Depe, however, a broad-faced, low-faced Europoid type of Cro-Magnoid appearance predominates; this type is attested in the 2nd millennium BCE in the lower Tedjen region (Geoksiur) and, by the end of the 2nd millennium BC, in southern Tajikistan (Tigrovaya Balka I). Khapuz-Depe skulls differ from both Kara-Depe and Geoksiur series in facial proportions, namely a small facial height combined with a large bizygomatic breadth, yielding a facial index of 50.5, at the lower limit of the mesene range. Overall, the Khapuz-Depe series is close to Cappieri’s Palestinian type, differing in a more dolichocranial and narrow cranial form and a greater nasal breadth. Morphologically, these skulls are close to the Cro-Magnoid–like skulls from Monjukly-Depe of the 5th millennium BC, as well as to the skulls from Hotu Cave.show more
