These birds are trapped from fields and sold on... the side of the road for people to buy, so that they can release them for “merit”. They lose their flocks, many die and those that are released after paying the fee, die in the new area as they are not able to survive alone and some are also killed by other birds and animals in the new area. Sadly there are no laws to protect them. The continuous cycle of buying them means more are caught and the buyer also becomes a part of and a supporter of this cruel cycle. 44 million birds crossed Kentucky last night. Another 42... million crossed Tennessee. A lot of y’all said those radar blooms couldn’t be birds. They were. Radar sends out two signals, one horizontal and one vertical. Rain reflects them almost the same. Birds don’t. That’s why storms in South Dakota showed up purple, while the birds over Kentucky showed up orange. And the reason the blooms hug the radar sites? The beam gets higher the farther it travels. Most migrating birds are only a couple thousand feet up, so radar sees them best nearby.show more

Every year, in April and May, families of common... mergansers from Warsaw's parks travel to the Vistula riverline, where they will spend the summer season. Employees of the Parks and Gardens Administration, supported by 30 volunteers, monitor the migrating birds and help them get to the Vistula River. So far, they have successfully guided nearly 150 young birds.show more

We have a big tree by the front window... of the bedroom… every morning I wake up at 7am to the cutest little chirps and conversations from all the birds who call it home. It’s one of the many small moments of joy that start my day… Did you know: 1️⃣ compared to urban noise exposer, hearing birds chirp has been shown to reduce stress levels (cortisol) by as much as 20% from as little as 5 minutes of exposure. This counts even if you hear it through in unnatural settings (like through headphones or on the TV). 2️⃣ in studies, anxiety dropped up to 25% when people were exposed to the sound. 3️⃣ positive affect increased by 25-35%. Participants report higher feelings of calm, safety, and optimism. The sound of birds has also been shown to help people recover faster from stress inducing interactions/situations.
