This runner at first was caught in a pick... off move by the pitcher. Pitcher throws to first and the first baseman fires to second and the umpire calls him out. He looked safe on the play. However, the umpire admits he was safe but said he called him out because the other team was losing 10-0 in the first inning. He said “he was so safe but I just gave it to them.” Basically saying we gotta’ get the game moving right? Fellow umpires, some coaches and parents said they respect the call and why. But many people said you are cheating that one runner by calling him out. They said no matter the score you have to have integrity even if it is 20-0. They said this is why kids grow up disliking umpires and why parents act the way they do. Tough one- I actually understand where he is coming from but if that were your kid, would you want him called out? AM2R is a triumph. The original Metroid 2 on... Game Boy was my first Metroid game, back when I was about 7. I've since played it about ten times. Over the years I've played all the 2D Metroids over and over, 5 to 20 times each. I don't usually play fan games, but this week I decided to finally give AM2R a shot (on Hard with an Xbox controller), and I gotta say... it's fantastic. It's simultaneously a more faithful remake than Samus Returns, and more satisfying to play and 100% complete. I like Samus Returns alright -- it's probably my least favorite 2D Metroid, still a good game though. But I think AM2R is even better.show more

So… The good news is Tyler is still with... us. He didn’t eat or drink much overnight but was up and down and fairly bright-eyed this morning. The bad news is he likely won’t overcome his condition barring a miracle. He isn’t stable enough to transport to a clinic and he is in all likelihood past the point of recovery anyway. The vet will be here a bit later to examine him but we are all bracing ourselves for the worst. He wanted to get out of his stall (pushed past as we cleaned it) so he roamed around the front yard for 20 minutes, looked into the living room, stood under a tree for a bit and is now lying down in the cool grass. With small exceptions he can do whatever he wants to today. I just wanted to say that I’m beyond overwhelmed by the support and kindness from everyone throughout this ordeal. Never once did I feel alone and I know Tyler felt it, too. Because of all of you he didn’t die in a grody kill pen, he will head to heaven feeling loved. Like they all deserve. My heart is broken, I know all of yours are too… I will say goodbye for all of you, I promise.show more

Here's the exact setup for anyone running local LLMs on 6-8 GB VRAM: llama.cpp server flags (on my NVIDIA RTX 4060 8gb VRAM): -m gemma-4-26B-A4B-it-qat-UD-Q4_K_XL.gguf --cache-type-k q8_0 --cache-type-v q8_0 -c 150000 --port 8080 Throughput with quantization: Prefill: 200-250 tokens/sec Decode: 20-25 tokens/sec reduce context if oom on 6 gb vram card. Key learnings: - Quantize KV cache to q8 for faster prefill/decode. Prefill goes from 100-150 (unquantized) to 200-250 tok/s (q8). - But watch out, once actual context grows past ~50k tokens on high entropy workloads, q8 KV quantization can cause hallucinations. Low entropy workloads are mostly unaffected. If you see it happening, drop the quantization. This is common across all local models. - In Hermes Agent settings -> Memory & Context, bump compression threshold from default 0.5 to 0.7. Default triggers way too frequent context compression and eats time. Up next: add persistent memory, web search, tool calling, streaming output and whatever you suggest. Running a 26B MoE with vision + 150k context window on 8GB VRAM would've sounded impossible 6 months ago. Works the same on the NVIDIA RTX 3060 Ti, 3070, 4060 Ti, 5060, 2080, or any 8GB card.
