Underwater Earthquake Filmed off of Indonesia: Scuba Divers were... exploring the Banda Sea, located south of Sulawesi Island, Indonesia and around 500 miles north of Darwin, Australia when a 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck. Due to inertia, the water isn’t moving in sync with the ground. This results in sand being kicked up. The effect is the same as if a sudden strong current of water just washed through the area - except it’s from the ground moving and not the water moving. It’s just relative movement.
