Here is comet C/2011 W3 (Lovejoy) passing perihelion on... December 16th, 2011. This too was a very small Kreutz comet, but it managed to survive perihelion, brightening to around magnitude -4. As bright as Venus. The comet survived the perihelion passage, but disintegrated four days later, emerging in the twilight sky as a headless comet.
