Sports 🥹🥹 At about the 70 minute mark last... night during Palmeiras and Inter Miami, a family of five came into our section. All 3 kids wore Miami colors. According to the parents, they weren’t necessarily the biggest Miami fans — they just loved Messi. The oldest kid, maybe 6/7, was mesmerized by the Palmeiras fans constantly on their feet screaming and chanting. I’m not sure he quite understood what was being said but after a little bit, he decided to join in. By the end of the match, his Miami jersey was off, he was screaming at the top of his lungs and he was high-fiving Palmeiras supporters. And the Brazilian club might have picked up a new fan in the process. After being around sports for long, you sometimes forget its unifying power and what effects it can have on people.show more

Following the barbaric Russian strike on the Ukrainian capital,... it was important to visit, together with heads of 55 foreign diplomatic missions, the site of one of the strikes, a ruined residential building in the Darnytskyi district. This is a site of a horrible war crime. At least 14 innocent civilians were killed by Russian terrorists here, including four children. One of the kids was born under Russian strikes in 2022 and killed by the Russian strike this morning. I am grateful to my colleague, Minister of Internal Affairs Igor Klymenko, who briefed foreign diplomats on the casualties and recovery efforts. It is critical that the world sees Russian terror and takes action to stop this barbarism. I thank all foreign diplomats who joined us today in commemorating the victims of Russian strikes. That's Mariyappan Thangavelu. Just few hours back he won... India's 🇮🇳 first ever Gold Medal in High Jump at World Para Athletics. Media won't share stories of such incredible athletes. But should know more about him. At the age of 5, he met with an accident where a drunk bus driver ran over his right leg that permanently disabled his knee. His school physical education teacher encouraged him to try high jump and he excelled at it. Comes from a humble background, he was was raised by a single mother working as a daily wage labourer and vegetable seller to support the family. Despite this setback, he completed his schooling and earned a bachelor's degree in business administration. At the 2016 Rio Paralympics, he won the gold medal for India. In 2020 Tokyo Paralympics he could have won the gold again but the rains made the conditions difficand settled for a silver. He is a Padma Shri and Arjuna Award winner. And won the Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna award in 2020 which is India's highest sporting honor. He used all his prize money to buy a paddy field for his mother and built a better house for his family. Mariyappan believes that his right deformed big toe helps him to get the leap. “This is what gives me leverage when I jump,” he says. “It is my God.” India is a country of amazing sporting talent. But we also need to be a country to celebrate all sports athletes. Everyone doesn't get brand deals and sponsors. The only fuel for these athletes is their grit and determination. In a big twist in the death of real... estate firm director Ketan Vishal Agrawal, police on Tuesday arrested his fiancée and her lover for allegedly pushing him into a deep gorge off Lohagad Fort in Pune and passing it off as an accident, officials said. While the incident, which occurred on June 18, was initially believed to be a case of an accidental fall at the historic Lohagad Fort, the investigation pointed to a murder conspiracy, they said. Agarwal (26), a resident of Gahunje in Pune district and director of a family-run real estate business, was found dead in a gorge near the fort on June 18. The police had then said Agarwal fell nearly 400 feet into the gorge while taking photographs during a trek with his fiancée and friends amid strong winds at the fort. An accidental death report was registered after his fiancée, Siya Goyal, told the Lonavala rural police that Agarwal had slipped and fallen while the couple was on an outing at the hill fort. Agarwal was scheduled to marry Goyal later this year. It was learned that the families had made elaborate wedding preparations, including booking a palace in Udaipur, Rajasthan, for the ceremony. Superintendent of Police, Pune rural, Sandip Singh Gill, said the circumstances surrounding the death appeared suspicious, which prompted police to investigate the case thoroughly. "Our teams examined multiple angles, including financial disputes and personal relationships. During the probe, police allegedly found that Goyal was in a relationship with another man, identified as Chetan Babulal Chaudhary (22), a resident of Kondhwa in Pune," he said. The investigation showed that Goyal was unwilling to marry Agarwal and considered him an obstacle to her relationship with Chaudhary, the official said. The two allegedly conspired to eliminate Agarwal. As part of the plan, Goyal took him to Lohagad Fort under the pretext of an outing, while Chaudhary was called to the spot later. The duo then allegedly pushed Agarwal off the fort, leading to his death, police said. Based on suspicion, the local crime branch took Chaudhary into custody. During interrogation, it emerged that since Agarwal was becoming an obstacle in Chaudhary's relationship with Goyal, both of them plotted to eliminate her fiancé. Goyal was also arrested based on Chaudhary's interrogation, the police said. "Following a complaint lodged by Ketan's father, Vishal Agarwal, the Lonavala rural police registered a case of murder and criminal conspiracy under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita on Tuesday," Gill said. Further investigation is underway to establish the exact sequence of events, collect forensic evidence and determine if other persons were involved in the alleged conspiracy, police officials said. This summer he did what very few players do nowadays, which is start on the Cape, leave for Team USA and finish out the summer on the Cape. At 6'3" and 230-lbs Martinez is plenty physical with present natural strength. Stands upright in the box with a slightly open front side and a medium-high handset. Relaxed setup. Martinez has a rhythmic load that includes a small barrel tip. Minimal drifting of his hands and is a small-strider. It's a compact operation in which he consistently takes a direct path to contact. Real hitterish look. Martinez has a bit of an interesting profile for his position in that he's a hit-over-power guy. He has a highly advanced feel for the barrel and double-plus contact skills. Martinez in '24 worked an 86% overall contact rate and an eye-popping 96% overall IZ contact rate. All-fields approach and sprays line drives from foul pole to foul pole. Advanced pitch recognition skills and swing decisions, will sometimes expand the zone against secondaries down. However, it's far from a hindrance. Not afraid to get aggressive early in counts. Comfortably 55 hit for me. While it's hit-over-power, Martinez isn't without some thump. He can drive the baseball into either gap, though the vast majority of his HR power is to the pull side. Posted a Max EV last spring of 104.3. More XBH power than HR power. Would give it a 50. Martinez is without a doubt a 1B/DH type professionally, so you're buying the bat. For someone who shaped countless lives, inspired generations, and continues to guide us through his legacy every single day, it was painful to witness. What made it even more emotional was that today happened to be his Vardhanthi. 🙏🏻 Without a second thought, I felt this was the least I could do as his student. By 5:30 AM, along with my family, team members, local MLA Kale Yadaiah garu, leaders, and well wishers, we joined hands to clean and restore the premises. Doing it with my own hands brought a sense of fulfillment that words cannot describe. I must also mention that Dasari garu’s family, who have always shared a close bond with me, were not neglecting the place in any way. They were already planning activities in connection with his Vardhanthi. This initiative simply came from a personal calling and a desire to pay my respects at the earliest. Dasari garu was never just a director. He was a one man film factory, an institution, and a guiding light whose impact on Telugu cinema and on my own life remains immeasurable. Having received his affection, encouragement, and blessings from my childhood days is something I will cherish forever. Many may come forward to honor him today, and that makes me happy.
